In January 2009 I needed to move a vehicle from RI to SC. I was under a deadline and had to have it moved before it went into storage and incurred storage cost. I requested transportation quotes online and was contacted by Alex Whitaker of Cross Country Auto Transport on January 10th. I informed Alex that I was not looking for a broker but a company that owned it's own trucks because I need a guaranteed pickup date. Alex said they were not brokers and if he could guarantee a pick up date would I do business with them. I told him I would if he could get it picked up the following week. He said he could do that. He took my credit card info and said he would fax a contract to me. To just sign and return it. The contract stated that they were brokers and could not guarantee a pickup date. On January 11, I called Alex and told him that was not what I was looking for and would not be contracting with them. He stated that although they were classified as brokers they were really not because they had a "relationship" with several drivers. I told him I could not take that chance and had decided to go get the vehicle myself. On January 13th they charged my credit card for $150.00 even though I had not signed a contract and had told them I was not going to do business with them. I called Alex back and said I needed them to debit the charge on my credit card. He put me in touch with a guy named Ralph in customer service. Ralph said he could not debit my credit card until the transaction had been processed which would take about 10 days. I said that would be fine but I didn't want to have to go through a hassle to get my money back. He said there would not be a problem. It is now March 31st and I still cannot get back the amount that they fraudulently charged my credit card. I have called and left messages and no one has the guts to call me back. I filed a dispute against them with my credit card company but they will not reply. DO NOT GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I realize that I will probably never get the money back but I am going to go ahead and file a complaint with the Florida Better Business Bureau and the Florida Attorney General's office anyway because these guys are out there charging against people's credit cards even though they don't have a contract for services.
