After failing to directly find a carrier, I decided to go with a broker. I found CAA on Yelp.com and they had good reviews so I went to their website and entered my info for a free quote. I quickly received the quote via e-mail and they asked me for more detailed info such as if I wanted an open or closed carrier. The e-mail also stressed the fact that auto transport was an unregulated industry and that I should read reviews and such. I called them, I spoke to Dakota, who explained the entire broker process to me, and asked me to read reviews of their company on this very website and on Yelp.com to make me more comfortable with them. The quote was $195 broker fee + $800 for the driver. I said ok and Dakota went to look for a carrier. He called me back a few days later and told me her found a carrier.

I gave them the day I wanted the driver to pick up the car. I was advised to give allowance in case the driver is late by a day or two. So the driver ended up coming the day after the day I gave because it was raining. This was ok as there was good communication between the driver and myself. The driver ended up calling me while I was 15 minutes from my apartment, telling me he was already at my apartment, so I raced over there, and he had a flatbed tow truck waiting. We inspected the car for damage, filled out some forms and he took the car away.

5 days later I got a call from a different driver saying the car would arrive the next day. The next day I got a call from the driver asking to meet in the parking lot of a shopping plaza. We met and he delivered the car to me safe and sound. I gave him the $800 (cash only) and he gave me the paperwork and we were done.

So all in all, an excellent experience. 6 days to send your car from California to New Jersey. Can't beat that.
