I had a project 1981 Porsche 928 on which I had recently completed an engine change and returned to operating condition. I wanted to ship it from California to Florida but didn't really know what to expect or who to trust to do this. I found this web site to be extremely useful in educating myself on what to expect from these companies and what type of problems might arise. This site let me research many companies via web links and at least have some idea of the ones that other people had good and bad experiences with. I had gone on the web and solicited estimates and was bombarded with quotes mostly within $100 of each other. Using this site I came up with a short list of candidates and made some phone calls. One of my priorities was that I wanted to load up the car with about 200 lbs of spare car and engine parts. Most companies say you cannot have any personal items in the car or at least no more then 75 lbs in the trunk. The first company I wanted to use said he could not accept it with the parts loaded so I thanked him for his honesty and continued down my list. Bluestar Auto Movers had called me immediately after I requested quotes and I had a positive impression of them. They said that the extra parts should not be a problem. After completing my research I decided to use their service. They had good reviews on this site, they had a nice useful web site and they are based out of Fort Lauderdale near where I live so if there was a problem at least I could go jump up and down on their desk if I needed to. They faxed me a contract right away with a note on it acknowledging that the car would have 200 lbs of parts loaded inside. They charged my credit card their fee of $200 after they identified "A Unique Transport" as the shipping company. I found the shipping companies web site and it was useful. Had I been able to find their site on my own I could have set up the shipment with them and saved a little money. Their web site mentioned that they might charge extra for extra items shipped in the car. The car was picked up by a single car transport truck at my Dad's house which was nice as I really didn't want my parents to have to coordinate getting the car to a location outside the neighborhood where a larger truck could pick it up. A couple of days before delivery I started getting emails and phone calls from both Bluestar and the trucking company verifying delivery dates and my contact information. The car was delivered on DEC 23 as promised. It was delivered at night just outside the neighborhood and except for some dirt it survived the trip well.
My only complaint was that I did not find out until 2 days before delivery that they were charging me an additional $100 for the extra weight in the car. I thought this was fair though and was relieved that there were no other problems with shipping the items. Several brokers told me that shipping the items was not possible due to shipping laws and regulations. I also didn't really like the night delivery but the driver was working overtime to get it delivered before Christmas and I was happy to have it. I paid the driver $800 cash on delivery. Unfortunately for him the extra $100 charge ate up his tip. I am very happy with the service I received from all concerned. Everything was as promised.
