Probably the Way I Would Have Done It.

I submitted my request online via a website which then forwarded my request to shipping agents who then contacted me with bids. After reading several horror stories on line about some shipping companies, I elected to go w/ ASG. They weren’t the cheapest but neither were they the most expensive. I liked the fact that they have offices all over the country including the city in which I live and their overall customer experience ratings were positive. This gave me some assurance that this wasn’t just some shady internet company. I was particularly worried about stories that I had read that recounted how pepole paid one price but couldn’t get their vehicle shipped w/o ultimately paying a much higher rate. Once I agreed to go w/ ASG, I continued to get solicited from other shipping agents. Apparently there are several national clearing boards that essentially post the type of vehicle desired to be transported as well as the pickup location and the destination. A contract (price) for the service is offered by the shipping agent and independent truckers can decide whether or not to accept the contract. I was bombarded several times a day by other shipping agents that said my car was still on the boards and that ASG was offering too low a price to get my vehicle shipped. I was subsequently informed by competing agents every time ASG increased the contract price in order to try and get my car shipped. After several days of not hearing anything from ASG, I inquired w/ them as to the status of getting my car shipped. I was told that there were no trucks currently available that were willing to haul my vehicle for the current contract price. I was given the option of continuing to wait for someone to accept the contract at the current price. I also was told that there was a truck available within an hour of my vehicle’s pick up location going the route I desired and leaving the same day but the shipper wanted $150 more than my original contract price. After brief consideration, I elected to approve the higher contract price as competing shipping agents said I would never get the car shipped for the initial contract price and it seemed, based on their competitors unsolicited input, that ASG was trying to make a good faith effort to get the car shipped at the original negotiated contract price. My car was picked up that same day and delivered 72 hours later in good condition and w/o damage. In retrospect, I believe that ASG did what I probably would have done: they initially offered a low price to the shippers but when there were no takers, they increased the value of the contract until it met maket demands.
