This has been the worst experience ever. WE hired Stateway Auto Transport to transport our vehicle from Washington DC to Oakland, California. Stateway subcontracted with Abraham which we were not aware of. We were given a 7 day window for car pickup and told we would be given a 2 day notice as to when the driver would pick up the car. Instead, we were called on a Saturday afternoon and told the driver would be there in 2 hours which was not possible for us. We managed to get the dispatcher to arrange to have the car picked up the following day - on Sunday - from our house as was part of the service agreement. Sunday came and went, no driver, Monday, Tuesday - no driver. Wednesday we departed for California and were assured the car would be picked up that day from the street - a friend took off work to wait for the driver - but the driver never showed up. On Thursday night the driver called and refused to come into DC to pick up the vehicle and demanded that we bring the car 40 miles outiside the city limits to deliver the car. In the meantime, because the driver did not pick up the car Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, we received multiple parking tickets! THe driver changed the pickup date from Thursday to Tuesday which was a lie - as we have parking tickets dated Wednesday August 13, 2014! We tried continuously and I mean every day to speak with someone at Stateway (who we hired for the service) to reduce the cost of the transport to pay for tickets as well as inconvenience to deliver the car outside the city. No one was helpful - Stateway pushed us off to Abraham and Abraham pushed us back to Stateway. And then for delivery - we got a call at 6 pm on August 21 saying the car would be delivered the next day at 6 pm. We got a call no August 22 at 6 am saying the car was there and we needed to provide cash or a cashier's check for the car. Well banks aren't open - how do you do that? They threatened to impound the car, were incredibly rude, unhelpful and unwilling to lower the price despite being days late, making us deliver the car etc. etc. And dealing only in cash or cashier's check? Come on. The whole experience was a nightmare - took hours and hours to deal with. There was no customer service, abusive staff and generally a horrible experience. It's amazing these people are in business at all. And then not to mention that no one speaks English - was very difficul to communicate!
