Never use A-1 Transport Company to transport your vehicle!! I had previously used a company that was a broker and I was looking for a company that owned their own vehicles and hired their own drivers. Linda of A-1 assured me that was the case with their company. This was a lie as two subcontractos contacted us during the process. Also, our situation required a quick pick-up and delivery which we were concerned about. Linda, again, told us no problem in meeting the dates. Another lie. Our vehicle was to be picked up in Ann Arbor and taken to Burlingame, California. When the day for pick-up came and went, we started to call A-1. After 10 phone calls, no answers or responses, we received an email that confirmed our pick-up for 8 days AFTER we requested. The date was after the time we were scheduled to fly out.
Five days after our initial pick up date, Linda called to say she was in the hospital and sorry she saw that our pick-up was wrong and we would be getting our money back. I encouraged my husband to follow up with an email to that effect. One week later we received an email saying we would not be getting any money back to OUR cancellation.
I also received a phone call from Linda saying she wanted to "discuss the matter". I still have my original email with the requested dates and her response that it would be "NO PROBLEM". Then they wrote up the confirmation with the made up date of the next week. We started looking at sites like this and two others with horrible reports of A-1 and were kicking ourselves for not being more investigative prior to our agreement and sending the money to them. They immediately took the cash of course. We ultimately decided that we would rather be out $1355 then not know where the car was or receive our car damaged. We found two acquaintances to drive our car out and paid all expenses and put them up in a hotel. They amazingly drove the car out in three days. We are pursuing the refund of our $1355. NEVER contract with A-1 as they changed their "Terms of Agreement" from a $500 deductible to a $5000! Read the fine print and don't sign anything until you get everything in writing.
