Where to begin..I purchased a vehicle in NH over the internet and started looking for a transporter to move it. The first broken I contracted with couldn't find a truck to move my vehicle after over a month. Very polite and courteous but just didn't know the business. Their bid was one of the lowest--so in retrospect I was not surprised that the vehicle didn't move.
Next I contacted a company called Top Haulers--which turned out to be a scam (see my reviews under their listing). They took off with my deposit, disconnected their phones, moved to Alaska, etc.. Also, their quote was on the low end....(think I'd have learned by now, no?)
Finally, I contacted Eric @ 1st call because of the outstanding reviews on this site. Now, I must admit at this point I was quite skeptical about the legitimacy of ANY of the reviews on the web, but after contacting a few of Eric's previous customers, I decided to go for it. This guy really knows the business, and after he did some research on which vehicles were moving and which weren't, Eric quoted me a fair price that was just about in the middle--higher than some bids I got, but lower than many others also. I gave him my CC#, but he agreed not charge me a penny until the truck had been assigned (Unlike Top Haulers...see above). After a few weeks, he found a truck, and just when I thought everything was settled, the previous owner of my vehicle managed to somehow seriously piss-off the trucker (actually the trucker's wife), who on the day before it was scheduled, decided they didn't want to deal with the previous owner and refused to pick-up the car. (NOTE: this was NOT an employee of 1st Call, but rather a trucker they had lined up...). Anyhow, Eric and I both tried to play peacemaker, but to no avail. So back to the drawing board. At this point, I think a less honest broker could have cut and run--afterall, he had done his part and found the trucker. But instead, Eric got back on it and several weeks later had another trucker assigned (GK Trucking out of Maine, driver's name was Gordon, whom I HIGHLY recommend also).
