I made a contract with Consolidated Auto Transport on January 21, 2013 to deliver my car to Utah for $850, $175.00 of that was paid immediatley by credit card as a confirmation of the contract along with the understanding that I would be moving from Virginia on February 9, 2013. The contract states that my car would be picked up within a window of 02/07/13 to 02/16/13. I had to contact CAT several times the final week we were in Virginia because no one from CAT was communicating with me about the pickup, and I needed to make arraignments to leave the car with someone. Finally someone returned my call two days before we left Virginia to tell me I may have to leave my car with someone because they hadn't found a truck yet. So I made arraignments to leave it with a friend of mine and called CAT and gave them this persons name, phone number and email address via email. Myself or my friend never received confirmation that they received that until I confirmed it with my next phone call to them. We arrived at our destination on February 14th. I called CAT to check on the status of my vehicle pickup and was told by Allen that he had taken over my job and that he was a Supervisor and would make sure I was top priority as soon as the weather cleared up across the country. I accepted that reason as my husband and I had just driven across country that very week and were aware of these conditions as well as the fact that they still had two days left on their window for pickup. I called CAT again on February 16th to see what the status was. I was told again that the trucks were all waiting but that I was first priority. On February 18th I called the person in Virginia that I left my car with just to touch base with him about why the car had not been picked up yet. He said someone from CAT called him to tell him as soon as they found a truck to pick up my car, he would have to drive it to Richmond for pickup. That is 60 miles north of where he lives. He told them they would have to give him at least 24 hours notice to ask off work, drive my car to Richmond as well as arraign for someone to follow him so he had a way back to his home. This was not part of the contract that I signed. My contract states door to door with exceptions of trees in the way or road work near the pickup/delivery site. I called CAT immediatley to find out why they were changing this and was told they were just trying to line up a truck. I told them to contact me first for all future coorespondance. I called CAT on February 23rd to see what the status was of my car. I was told the trucks were backed up now and they hoped I would give them time to find a carrier and not cancel my order. I was, of course, understanding because of the weather conditions the week before and that weather conditions were exceptions in my contract for late delivery. I received a phone call on February 28th from Reggie telling me that he had now taken over my job and the prices had gone up and I would have to pay them to get my car delivered. I ask him how that is legal since I had signed a contract for a set amount and put down a deposit to confirm that price and delivery dates and he said it was the drivers that were raising the prices. I was very confused and felt like I was at their mercy since I did not have my car and they had my deposit. Reggie said that he would keep checking with other drivers but that he didn't think he could get it moved for the agreed upon price of $850 and that CAT was at the mercy of the drivers. I told him to keep looking and that I wanted a call back from him daily. After talking to my husband we decided to cancel with CAT the next day. I then contacted my sales rep from the company that moved our furniture. My car was picked up yesterday for delivery by March 18th or they will provide me a rental. I have not been able to look for employment and have not heard from CAT since I sent in my cancellation nor seen a refund of my deposit.
