Not the cheapest, but pretty reliable

We’ve used this company 3 times (once in 2006 and twice in 2008). I’m about to book them for the fourth time.

I really like their customer service – they always pick up the phone fast, and have friendly, knowledgeable and professional customer service people on the phone.

Like almost any car transport company, they are a broker – but they seem very careful about the truckers they sub-contract to deliver the cars – all 3 times we used them, the truck drivers were polite and easy to get in touch with. Based on some “horror-story” reviews I’ve read, it seems like a pretty important aspect. Also, they stay involved throughout the whole transport process and send emails during the transport and after the car is delivered to make sure everything was OK.

All 3 times our cars were shipped, they picked the car up a few (sometimes several) days later than the original pick-up window they gave us (fortunately, in our situation, it didn’t make much difference). The important thing is that the cars always got to the destination pretty much on time (plus/minus a day or two – again, it wasn’t a deal breaker to us).

The first 2 times the cars we shipped were in open carriers and arrived dusty and dirty, but otherwise without a scratch.

The last time (June 2008) we shipped a brand new Jaguar from FL to CA in enclosed carrier (price: $1,895) – the car arrived in perfect condition.

Overall, as car transport companies go, I’ve had good experience with Allen (that’s why I’m about to book them to ship the said Jaguar back to FL – our fourth booking with Allen – this time it will cost $1,950 – disappointingly expensive, considering that gas prices went down by 50% since June ’08). Not cheap, but as with everything in life – you get what you pay for…
