DASH auto Transport - good experience

I bought a low mileage 1979 Pinto on Ebay. The car was in eastern Pennsylvania and it's new home would be near Detroit. The car was not near any airports. So a fly-in & drive back was not an option. I was in China at the time and my work schedule was crazy.
I was in no hurry to have the car picked up, I had a 1 month window, more if needed. The seller was flexible.

So I investigated using an auto transport company opposed to picking it up myself with a tow dolly. The distance was 545 miles in one direction. If I picked it up myself the total miles would be 1090 miles round trip. With my GMC getting an average of 15 mpg with a car in tow the fuel cost would be around $225.00 Then add in hotel stay, meals, and I am looking at a total cost around $400.00.

On Ebay they link DAS. I used the link and it estimated the cost at $888 for door to door. Because the car was old, the site said to call. I called...Wow, they wanted $1295.00 !

So I tried getting some competing quotes. Using the American Auto Transport web site I got many quotes. The prices were all over the map. I was really scared about the low cost quotes because they were so far from the DAS price I figured it was too good to be true. I read a lot of fine print. I wanted a guaranteed total price, no variables like fuel surcharges. I also used this site to check the reviews of the lower quoted companies. This looks like a very troubled industry.

DASH quoted $449.00. The writing was good. I was still scared, but I gave them a call.

I spoke with a gentleman named Sven. He made me feel comfortable and I decided to go with it.

Bottom line: Everything went great! No hidden charges, no surprises. Wifey received the car for me since I was still in China. The driver was very cooperative. (Wifey was so happy she gave the driver a tip. So much for my budget!)

Disclaimers: I have no relationship with any auto transport company. My reason to write this review is because I used this site to help make my decision. My transaction went good, that is not to say things will be the same for you since this service is brokered. My pick-up window was very flexible, if your schedule is tight you could have different results. Try calling DASH direct versus the American Transport site, that could potentially cut out one more level of cost. I have no idea if that could have got a lower cost doing it that way, but it would be worth trying.
