First carrier was unacceptable. Added to wait time.

Needed to ship a Porsche from a restoration shop in New York to Washington state. Requested an enclosed carrier and was given a price of $1945. This was pretty much on target with quotes from other carriers, which ranged from $1830 - $2200. Made the car available on a Wednesday. We were assigned a carrier the following Monday who was to arrive on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Bad weather in the northeast and the carrier arrived on Wednesday. But the enclosed carrier was nothing more than an open trailer covered in plastic and duct tape. Refused to release the car and the job went back up on the boards for another carrier to respond to. This added a few more days to the actual shipping time. The second carrier did provide an enclosed carrier but could only pick up on a Saturday. The restoration shop was not open on Saturdays so we had to ask a staff member to come in an open the place for the carrier. Turned out the only person available to do that was the owner, so he did us the favor of coming in on a Saturday to meet the carrier. We felt a little awkward about having to ask for the favor. Once picked up on Saturday, 11 days after we made the car available, the transit was smooth sailing and the car arrived in Seattle on Wednesday night, 4 days after pick-up. Because the delivery was at night, it was difficult to visually inspect the car when it was delivered. Also made difficult by the thick layer of dust/grime that was covering the car. Not the best experience, but the car did make it from New York to Seattle on the fifteenth day after it was made available for pick-up. Can't say how this rates in general since we haven't shipped a car before. And with any luck we won't need to do it again for awhile.
