I took a chance ordering a pick up of my vehicle with Tristar. I read the reviews and decided to hire them anyway because I was enticed by the $645 "total" fee. I became concerned after receiving the contract (which is only sent for review after sending a deposit) and contacted the infamous Harvey. He assured me, saying in writing, "You have my word" that I would only owe $470 after the deposit was received. When the car was being delivered I was told the cost would be $900 more (after the $175 deposit). I faxed the official-looking paperwork from Tristar, thinking that it was no problem because I had the quote in writing, but was told I had to pay the $900 to get my car. This took my quoted price (the "on my word" price) from $645 to $1,075. I was asked to fax my quote and, after I did so, I was faxed a copy that showed I owed $900. I did not know that Tristar was only a shell operation that actually doesn't transport vehicles. They hire others to do the hauling and negotiate a separate agreement that is higher. Boomerang Trucking was the company trying to deliver my vehicle and I'm not sure yet what role they played; however, I believe they might have been duped too. Tristar pockets stolen money and leaves the company delivering the vehicle to deal with the customer. They essentially back out as soon as the deal is done (i.e., deposit received), refusing to answer e-mails or phone calls. But what are you going to do when they have your deposit? You have to trust that they are doing business in a legitimate manner. It is impossible to get out of this situation after being ensnared by the low-ball quote and the assurances by the nefarious staff. Don't let this happen to you. If you have placed a deposit, just let it go and turn to a reputable transport company - you will undoubtedly save money and will not enter the nightmare that many of us have endured. This was not good for my ulcer and, if you don't have one now, just sign up with Tristar and discover how painful they can be. Oh, by the way, I told them to keep the car [and they did]. That's how upset I was. Does that show you how unreasonable they were??? My next step is calling a federal agency. They have to be federally regulated to be doing interstate business. I will see if I can attach copies of the two vastly different quotes to this complaint for all to see.

He never told us to keep the car, and in fact we could not, the trucker has the car and we have no control over him. The customer was only charged based on the contract we assume that after he thought it over the car was probably not worth the freight bill and said to keep it, if he in fact did. This customer was never deceived, he was told the extras as well as the contract that he was sent explained all, just too bad he probably did not read it.
