In May I signed a contract with All American Auto Transport for a quote of $1655.00 for my car to be shipped from Hawaii to Colorado. Upon signing of the contract I put down a deposit of $250.00 to lock in the rate (with rising fuel costs and all). O(n 25 June I delivered my car to Matson terminal on Sand Island. Matson staff was very professional. At that time I paid another $855 to Matson. My car was to be picked up in Long Beach, CA and delivered to Colorado Springs. I tried unsucessfully to contact all american through their customer service by phone (always on another line assisting customers) and email. Even leaving messages didn't not warrant a return call. Finally somebody named Debbie (rude person) called me to give me the name of the company that piciked up my car. Silly me, I thought all american would handle all the details. Turns out some outfit by the name of Ness Autotransport had my car. Calls to that company were unsucessfully. Finally I wrote another strongly worded email to all american requesting an estimated date of delivery. Per my inquries to Matson, my car arrived in Long Beach on 3 July. Yet when I checked back it wasn't picked up until 16 July 2008. Finally on 28 July the driver called me (I couldn't even understand his name nor half of the conversation) you told me that my car would be delivered on 29 July and the totaL cost would be $740.00. My quote stated $550.00. Again after trying in vain to reach all american by phone I send another (threadening) email asking for an explanation. They came back with a story of CA now adding $100 for fuel, blah blah blah. I though signing the contract would lock in my rate. DREAM ON. Then the driver stated that he had to pay another $90 for storage fee - otherwise Matson would not have released the car.
Like many others I never thought of checking this company out. And paid a costly lesson. My original quote was for $1655 and ending up at $1845.
American seems to contract with dubious outfits that are not listed anywhere. The customer is being held "hostage" by not getting their car back unless they fiork over the money. To me this constitutes fraud. American "hides" behind hidden costs such as fuel surcharges.
NEVER AGAIN!!!
