Here is my transport story:
After spending hours on this site, I decided to call Eric at 1st Call for two reasons: his review history was fantastic and he clearly was a small company where I could actually speak to the owner of the company. The later was so important to me as I was shipping a car that I had never seen before and had cost me close to $40K. I had so many questions and so much concern after reading some of the horror stories on this site. Also, I had received about 30 emails from other companies after I stupidly filled out an on line form on another site. Each email talked about how if I did not pick their company I would be making a mistake. I felt like the opportnuity to speak with the owner of a company was too good to pass up.
BOY WAS I RIGHT TO CALL ERIC! This guy is as sharp and as knowledgeable as they come. In fact, Eric USED TO BE A CARRIER AND USED TO DRIVE AN AUTO TRANSPORT TRUCK!!!!!! His knowledge of the industry is incredible and was so helpful in putting me at ease. Ok, here are the facts of my experience...
After spending some time on the phone with Eric over the course of two to three days, I decided I would go with Eric. How could I not, he was so helpful in filling me in about the pluses and minuses of the industry. Also, his price was rock solid: not the lowest and not the highest, right in the middle. His deposit was reasonable (which gives him and his customers more power over the carriers <and it gives you peace of mind that the driver is going to take care of your precious cargo>) and he does not charge your credit card until he has secured you a carrier and set up a pick-up date. >>>>>>>>
These points are so key as a high deposit taken immedietly is a recipe for disaster, just ask Eric.>>>
Ok, so I called on Monday and told him my car would be ready on Wednesday for pickup at the earliest. A few hours later I receive an email from him saying he has secured a transporter for....Wednesday!!! YES!!!
On Wednesday I find out the transporter is running behind and it cannot make it till Thursday early afternoon, which was fine. The whole process was so easy and smooth. I called up the dispatcher (Eric gave me the number) and they were pleasant, told me about the small delay and gave me the drivers cell phone so I could coordinate with him. The driver, Daniel from Ranger Auto, was so easy to deal with. He answered his cell phone 85% of the time, and when I left a message, I could literally expect a call back within 15 minutes each and every time.
The car was delivered to my door on Saturday morning in the same condition as it went on the truck on Thursday and with the same exact miles as when it got on the truck.
So, yeah, overall my experience with Eric and 1st Call was damn near picture perfect! I no longer have any auto transporter worries as Eric has secured my business in the future.
I really feel like if you do not call Eric and take advantage of his knowledge, professionalism and the fact that he is the owner, then you are taking a risk. Period.
