| My first "Internet" Auto Purchase |
I purchased a Cadillac SRX from Weil Cadillac in Libertyville Illinois. This was my very first "internet" auto purchase and the first time I've ever had to arrange auto transportation. In the past I've had bad experiences with house movers so was quite nervous.
I researched the Internet and contacted a number of websites offering either transportation services or services which would market my request to multiple carriers. In a few days I received quotes ranging from a low of $795 to a high of $1495. I ended up choosing AAA auto transport. At $904 they were not the cheapest nor most expensive. I chose to go with them for a couple of reasons. First, Samantha at AAA was very responsive and helpful. Secondly, AAA seemed to be one of the few companies that immediately responded to my e-mails and was always reachable by phone. As well, I happened upon this website and noticed that they had generally positive reviews. So, I decided to sacrifice a couple of dollars and go with them.
After sending off my $175 retainer fee, I discovered that AAA actually wouldn’t be doing the transportation them selves but instead arranged services through Expedited Auto Transport.
The timing of my transport went as follows: I sent off my retainer on the 2nd. I then had to fill out their agreement and fax it back. The next day I was contacted by Expedited. They picked up the car was on the 5th and delivered on the 9th. This was over the New Years weekend. All along the way Expedited kept me informed as to exactly when my car would arrive. It arrived exactly as described, albeit, a little dirty.
I couldn't be happier with my experience. Now I realize that I can breath a little easier the next time I shop “nationally” for my next car. As a side note, I had been negotiating with my local dealer but backed off when I couldn't get my price. He dropped his price $7500 when he discovered I was considering buying in Illinois. Also, another hint. If you are unable to personally verify to condition of the car when negotiating with the dealer, make the sale subject to the transportation company coming up with the same evaluation as provided by the dealer. The transport companies are unbelieveably thorough in listing any infinitesimal blemish. I'm sure what the dealer may initailly described as “perfect” will then change to having this or that small rock chip, etc. Obviously the transport companies evaluation can’t help with mechanical or interior condition, but, they surely point out even the smallest exterior flaw.
I had a great experience. I hope you do to. I highly recommend AAA/Expedited.
