These Guys Are Dishonest

New Way Moving may move a few cars, but they were aggressive, deceitful, unbusinesslike, and ultimately dishonest with me. New Way does not advertise its customer reviews, for good reason.

This was my first auto transport, and I requested a quote online. Sure enough, I received a quote from New Way and a half dozen other brokers, all of them unknown to me, on the same day. I did not select any of them immediately. A week later, New Way’s “office manager” Rachel called me, requested a new pickup window, and promoted New Way aggressively (its quote and deposit were among the lowest I had received). She told me that, even without taking a deposit or posting my proposed transport on the online board used by brokers, New Way had identified a trucker for me for pick-up the following Monday or Tuesday (but she did not pass me the trucker’s name and contact information). She told me I could cancel with New Way “until the truck actually shows up at [my] door”; I never signed any document agreeing to other terms. Finally, she took a deposit from me by credit card. That was when the problems started.

Within an hour, Michael sent me a proposed contract for online execution. It clearly had not been drafted by an attorney, or even someone necessarily fluent in English, and was so one-sided in favor of New Way that it suggested a history of customer-service problems. It also contained terms different from those stated to me by Rachel; some of these terms suggested that its quote was not firm, others suggested that my cancellation rights were more limited. I tried negotiating some of the terms with Michael but was only partly successful. I then checked the transport reviews here and found plenty to be concerned about with New Way. My confidence shaken, I called New Way, about 4:45 p.m. on a Thursday, to cancel. My call went directly to voice mail, and I left a message. I then emailed notice of cancellation, less than an hour or so after my deposit had been taken and before New Way had identified a trucker to me.

The next day Michael emailed me back. He was argumentative and insulting; English did not appear to be his first language. The deposit had been earned, he claimed. I would hear from management later that day, he said. But I did not. Management didn’t call, it didn’t write. No candy. No flowers. New Way ignored me until after it had charged my credit card. Keisha of New Way called me the following Monday, as my car was about to be loaded onto a truck courtesy of another broker, to tell me that New Way had a trucker available for me. I told her I had cancelled the previous week and that she should check with Michael.

I am still fighting for the return of my deposit. Needless to say, I will never call New Way again.
