Poor Response Times / Lied About Pricing

Before shipping my car, I did extensive research on what company to use, and decided to go with Amerifreight because they were the only company that looked even remotely reputable based on what I had read online.

I went to their website and requested an online quote which was later emailed to me, for $1195, to ship my car from Wilkes-Barre, PA to Los Angeles.

When I called to book the order, I was told it is actually $1295. I thought to myself, its only an extra $100, screw it, and booked the order. I was told my car would be picked up within 1-5 days.

After hanging up the phone, I received an email notification with the contract that I needed to return. Even though I was quoted 1-5 days, the contract said 1-7 days. Again, I let it slide because it seemed like a minor detail, and I was assured that cars are normally picked up within the first 1-3 days anyway.

After 5 days passed, I called Jorge and left a voicemail asking if he had any information about when my car would be picked up. After a few hours without a response, I sent him an email as well. Another day passed without a response so I tried calling and speaking with someone else. They told me they would transfer me to Jorge, at which point they just hung up the phone. I called back and again spoke with somebody else, and told them that I was canceling my order if he didn't call me back within the next hour - he finally called back and told me he would get it taken care of.

The next day I received another call from Amerifreight, informing me that the reason my car is taking so long is because the price point is too low (even though it's already $100 higher than they originally quoted me) and that they have a driver, but it will cost me an additional $400. I was furious at this point. I understand how the business works and that the drivers are the ones who set the price, but it seems to me that they intentionally underquoted me in order to get my business. At this point, I didn't have time to book with another company; I was renting a car while waiting for mine to be shipped, and waiting another 1-7 days to get picked up from another carrier would have cost me more than the $400 in rental fees. They eventually offered to eat half the cost, so I only ended up paying an additional $200 ($300 more than the original quote).

Once my car was picked up, everything went fine. The driver was great and got my car across country much quicker than expected.

Although I don't really expect any better results from another company based on the reviews that I've been able to find online, I'd rather take my chances than give any more of my money to Amerifreight.

It is always disappointing when we receive unsatisfactory feedback from our customers. Although prices are never guaranteed we try to be accurate in our estimation on premium orders. This was a Priority Preferred order and should have moved within 5 days. Because of us not being able to deliver as promised we contributed $200 towards the extra cost to get the customer's car shipped. That was most of our service fee. What is not acceptable at all is that we have neglected to communicate sufficiently with our customer. We will follow up on this with our freight agent and take the necessary action needed to improve on better communication with our customers. We appreciate this honest feedback from our customer and apologize for the less than satisfactory shipment experience. Feedback of all types are what we need to ensure we do not become complacent but continue to work hard to retain our reputation as the best respected and professional car shipping company in the industry.
