When deciding to work with any shipping company, it's important to realize that the shipping company is a broker and has no control over whether a trucking company will agree to transport your car at the quoted price. This company, like most, gives you a very very low quote (mine was $1155) which was lower than the other companies I spoke with, and why I went with this company in the first place. I also read their reviews and didn't see any horror stories.
Off the bat, my contact at Amerifreight told me that $1155 was not a realistic price, which is curious because I don't understand why they would list the initial quote that low other than to lure in customers. I was told they were offering that quoted price, however, to trucking companies and would notify me if there were any takers. After two weeks and nothing, I got a call that said a company would do it for $1450 (which is retail price). So at the end of the day, I waited 2-3 unnecessary weeks and ended up paying the full retail price anyway.
What I did appreciate was this company cares about their ratings, and are prepared to go the extra step to make customers happy. They were very responsive, and my contact agreed to take off $100 of his commission to make me not pay the $1550 that it ended up being. He certainly made the experience better.
I hope never to ship my car again because it's a difficult and unpleasant experience. If I ever do it again, I will just pay the full rate up front (which I ended up doing eventually) instead of trying to save a few hundred dollars. I also don't appreciate how I was obligated to write a review for the $50 discount I would receive, when I ended up paying $300 more than I anticipated...
