Shady Quoting Tactics and Piss Poor Service

I had a truck that needed to be shipped from a dealer in Santa Cruz CA to Fort Collins, CO. I put out for quotes from at least 7-10 shipping companies all highly rated on transport reviews. Amerifreight came in MUCH LOWER than everyone else:

Highest bid: ~$1400
Average bids: $1000
Low bid: $775
AmeriFreight: $645 - $50 bonus = $595.

So I thought, wow that is super low compared to everyone else, how are they able to do that? I guess I'll go with them.

So AmeriFreight puts out a bid to shippers/truckers to ship the car for a ridiculously low amount. Of course, after a week, no one had been interested in picking up the vehicle because the price was stupidly low. So AmeriFreight calls me and suggests upping the amount to $750 in order to increase the chance a trucker will want to pick up the vehicle. I agree to this. Almost a week later, still no response. AmeriFreights next move was probably to ask me to increase the amount some more.

In the end, I was approaching TWO WEEKS of waiting with zero progress. On top of this, I would only get a response from my contact, Bob, only about 1/3 of the time I emailed him or left him voicemails asking about progress.

AmeriFreight comes in with a SUPER low quote for you in order to pull you in. Then, they slowly increase the amount of money you are paying until they find someone to ship your vehicle. So in the end you will probably pay the same as some other quote from some other company, but end up having to wait for weeks for this to happen. AmeriFreight shouldn't quote you a price that they KNOW they cannot deliver on. And please answer your customer's freakin' phone calls and emails!

I cancelled and got my deposit back and found a MUCH more reliable shipper that sounds like they have their act together at a more realistic and acceptable rate of $800.

Don't use AmeriFreight. Horrible.

We truly apologize to our customer for not living up to his expectations in shipping his vehicle. It is however important that we elaborate more on how we do business and try our best to serve our customers. AmeriFreight always try to negotiate the best possible rate for any shipment, depending on a customer's needs. We explicitly explain to our customers that they need to have time and patience if they want to ship at the economy saver rate. Although we may in many instances not be able to ship at the lowest bid, we still manage to save our customers 100 s of $$ by keeping the rate much lower than most other companies would offer. Should a customer have time constraints, we do have priority shipment options. Our freight agents are always very busy serving customers and will respond as soon as they have news on a shipment. We never deem any order less important than another. We do value every single comment our customers make and will learn from this incident to make your auto transport experience with us as good and better than more than 99% of our very satisfied customers testified.
