This was my first time having a car transported and everything went very well from beginning to end.

The car being transported was an eBay find up in Massachusetts. I really had no problem traveling by ferry from Orient Point NY to New London CT, and then up to Massachusetts to thoroughly inspect the car and make the deal. The issue was getting it home. Yes, I had given thought to putting the plates from my other vehicle on it, but it would look rather odd with NY plates and a Massachusetts window sticker driving along I95. So I decided to save myself the trouble and just have it shipped.

I was scheduled to look at the car on Saturday May 21st, and called United Road on Friday the 20th to iron out all the pickup, delivery, and payment details. Initially I was quoted $617 to my door. About forty some-odd dollars more than the quote listed on the eBay auction, but that was the fuel surcharge, which I understand in these days of fuel expenses. No problem. I then asked that the car be delivered to my brother's house about 10 miles west of my home since he lives on wide, flat roads which would be more conducive to the manouvering of a transport truck. Slightly shorter delivery distance, slightly lower revised price of $585. On my way home from the office Friday, I receive a call from Andrew saying that there is a 10% discount offered for transport through the NorthEast corridor I was in, so my final cost fell to $535.

All that was needed from me now was to see the car on Saturday, and send out an email afterwards stating wether I did the deal or not. Well I did the deal and sent an email straight from my Droid letting Andrew know to get shipping together.

Being the type to always follow up faxes and emails, I called Andrew first thing Monday morning to be sure he had received my email and got the shipment rolling. Everything was in order. I received a call on Tuesday May 24th from the driver stating he would be picking the car up on Wednesday the 25th and delivering it on Thursday the 26th.

I receive a call at 7:30 Thursday morning from the driver stating he was 60-90 minutes away from the delivery point, (my brother's house), so I get my gear together and head out the door. About 9:20AM the car arrives on a small fifth wheel trailer. Other than the car being a little dirty from traveling through some rain on the way (it happens, and a quick rinse took care of it), everything looked good. I signed the papers, was handed the key, and my eBay prize was in my posession.
