We had a vehicle shipped from Florida to Maryland over a three day period. The driver called less than 24 hrs in advance (which is what they promise) to deliver our vehicle. He insited that he would be here before noon the next day even after I told him I had an appointment which I cancelled so I could accept the delivery. He finally showed up at 2:30pm.
Then we saw the rear wheel drive truck had been towed behind a roll back all the way from North Carolina (about 400 miles) on its rear wheels!
Lastly the driver check the head lights when he got out an informed us that the truck would have to be jump started. The driver told us it had to be jumped to get it off the car carrier in North Carolina. I called the seller who told me the truck had been driven onto the rollback at his home three days prior. The driver was very helpful in getting the truck started after several attempts to jump it and keep it running. We were finally able to get it into our driveway after a half hour.
We contacted our mechanic who showed that there was ZERO charge on the battery and that the alternator was blown. We had both replaced for $144.00 (the cost of parts).
I felt that for almost $1000 in shipping charges, the truck should have come off of the rollback the way it went on in Florida. I contacted the claims department and didn't hear back for two days. I contacted them again on a Friday where the gentleman asked why I thought they had anything to do with our mechanical problem. He was apologetic but never claimed any responsibilty for the disrepair the vehicle was in upon delivery. I insited that it was not acceptable and he agreed to contact the drivers for an interview.
The following Monday I was called and told that the truck had never been started and that it was winched onto the rollback in Florida and driven all the way to Maryland on the same truck. I informed the gentleman at United Road that I didn't expect monetary compensation (although they had never even asked how much my claim was) but I did expect better customer service and for the company to take some responsibility for the condition of our truck when it was delivered. This was the end of my contact with United Road.
I called the seller again (who has 100% positive rating on ebay and has offered several times to pay for the parts) and asked how the truck had been loaded. Again he stated that the rollback driver drove the truck onto the rollback.
I will never know the truth, but I know that employees of United Road are dishonest and need to work a bit harder together to keep their stories straight. They are clearly concerned about saving a dollar and are not concerned about their company's reputation or customer's satisfaction.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING UNITED ROAD FOR ANY OF YOUR AUTOMOTIVE SHIPPING NEEDS!
