Notice... I do not work for or own a company that is in competition with this business. What I have to say here is a totally honest report on my experience as a customer of this business. My motive is to make sure that others don't enter into a contract for services with this business without knowing about my experience.
STAY AWAY... FAR AWAY.
(They also have another address... a post office box in Pasadena... don't be fooled... same outfit... same phone number)
I hired Bob Jones' company, The Car Carrier to transport two Lexus automobiles from Seekonk, Massachusetts to Huntington Beach, California.
The deal, confirmed in writing, was that the cars would be picked up on one of four days in September, the 9th, 10th, 12th or 13th. It was important that the pickup was to be made no later than the 13th since this was a permanent move and we were scheduled to fly out to California on the morning of the 14th. The driver (independent contractor) did not show up until the afternoon of the 14th. That caused the cost of an extra day at the hotel, an additional day on a rental car and necessitated the cancellation and re-booking (at about $300 more than the original fare) of our flight to the 15th. The total extra, unanticipated expense was more than $500.
And then, on the delivery end of the experience a different driver representing another contractor called the morning of the 21st to say the delivery would be make around noontime that day. He did not arrive until after 5 pm. The excuse was that a tire/wheel fell off the carrier on the 405... the driver lamenting that he was issued two citations by CHIP. Felt bad for him... and even gave him a tip...only because I was so happy to even see my cars!
The cars were filthy and there was some new minor damage to the left front wheel well of one of them. Additionally, it appears that the cars were driven quite a bit during the time they were supposed to be on the carrier. Both cars had about a quarter of a tank of gas when they were picked up. Both tanks were empty upon delivery, and the interior headrests (driver and passenger) were raised and seat positions changed. (Hope the drivers and riders of the moment had fun... nice rides dudes?)
The quality of communication with Bob Jones, the dispatcher and the drivers was intermittent and otherwise awful. Most of the status information provided by all concerned, including Stephanie and Bob himself, turned out to be inaccurate. Stephanie provided me with the contact number for the dispatcher and the driver.
the dispatcher lied about the location of the truck. The driver of the truck would only respond via text messages. When he finally arrived, a day late, at the hotel where we were staying in Seekonk to pick up the cars, he was unfazed by the whole situation...It was BAU (business as usual) to him. "I get there when I get there" is what he said. Bob Jones was clueless on Friday the 13th...(I spoke to him) and had no idea where the cars were and why the dispatch person lied about the location of the carrier.
However, bottom line is that at the end of the day... even after the intervention of the BBB, Bob was not willing to make any concessions in the way of a price adjustment whatsoever. All he offered was lame excuses and a weak "sorry for the inconvenience" response.
