We were having our BMW 530i shipped from Miami, FL to Stanwood, WA thru Motion Express Auto Carrier based out of Portland, Oregon. Upon speaking with the Broker, they told me that it would take about a week to get our car delivered and that the driver would contact us both 24 hours ahead of time and 2 hours within delivery to make sure someone was there to recieve the vehicle. After a week of not receiving any phone calls I decided to call the broker to then get the driver's # and contact him. He told me that they were "being held up on the east coast due to Hurricane Irene passing thru and that he would contact me" when he got closer, and the lastest I would recieve the car would be on 9-5 Labor Day (making it a 12 day or more delivery). Never did get the 24 hour notice, to reassure me the delivery was on. As I was out running errands early in the morning on 9-5, I decided to call back and check in again with the driver. Dispatcher called the driver, who then called me back to tell me they'd be there in one hour and that they had tried to call me, yet I mysteriously 'missed' these phone calles they claimed to have made numerous times. No messages, no missed calls shown on either home or cell phone they had, which I also verified with them. Rushed home to receive the delivery of car. Two gentlemen dropped it curbside (no semi-truck in sight) and was quick to get the cash (asking 3-4 times) and have me 'sign off' on the delivery. I did a quick walk around looking at exterior of car and signed. My plan was to have a male friend there with me to make sure everything went okay and did not have enough time to arrange that due to the lack of communication. I got into the car to pull it in the driveway and noticed that no electronics worked. Couldn't move seats(seat was so far forward my husband nor I could barely fit in it), no AC, no windows, no stereo, ect. I immediately called back the driver and he stated, "Oh I thought you knew that and shipped it that way." Now why wasn't this brought to my attention when he dropped it off? And why would I believe that the car wasn't working properly when he drove it up to my house? This driver told me that he only transported the vehicle from Portland to Stanwood that he would talk to the "other" driver who transported it from Miami to Portland. Did not hear back from him like he promised. Took the car to a mechanic to only discover that ther was an electrical fire in the trunk of the car, burning the component that runs all the electrical. AND, there was fire extinguisher remnants all over the battery. Once again, called the trucking company to complain and get some answers, and they denied that anything ever happened to our car in transit and it was "only driven when it was taken off one trailer and loaded onto the 2nd trailer." Motion Express Auto Carrier's insurance denied all claims to fix the car and therefore we had to go thru our insurance. Once it was fixed and the electronics worked, we noticed that the car had less than 1/4 tank of gas in it.....AND my husband topped it off with gasonly a quarter mile from wher e it was picked up!!! They put 268 miles on the car and said they NEVER DROVE IT!!!! I want to know why my car was being driven and what happened during transit causing an electrical fire. Somebody knows something obviously since there was fire extinguisher remnants and nobody is fessing up. My husband and I are furious and will NEVER EVER use this shipping company again!! They were very unprofessional, lied numerous times, and took advantage of a young woman getting her car back. Had I known the car wasn't working properly when dropped off I NEVER would have signed off on it. I would have called the police to file a report had I known what I know now! I hope that anyone else that reads this finds another shipping company to deal with!
