This is a review about a recent experience I had with Kathy from Magic Carpet towing. First off, the only reason I’m giving her five stars is because I can’t give her 6.

I needed my car picked up from City Wide Towing, a Las Vegas tow yard with a sleazy reputation. (Side note: My car was being towed from Vegas to LA after an accident and through my insurance company Magic Carpet gave me a terrific rate. I got rate quote from a tow company in LV that was FIVE times as much.)

Kathy at Magic Carpet arranged within minutes for my car to be picked up the next day. Great rate, timely service. So far so good.

My insurance company then arranged the release of my car pending the $250 storage fee my car had accumulated in the four days it stayed at the lot.

When the driver arrived on the lot with his car carrier the attendant at City Wide said the fees hadn’t been paid. Kathy called me and then put the attendant through with three-way calling. They wouldn’t let me or the insurance company pay with a credit card over the phone which is standard practice. They wanted cash. They wouldn’t budge no matter how badly I was inconvenienced. To top it off they were rude and dismissive.

The driver was on site and had a schedule to keep.

The attendant at the tow yard said I had to come to Vegas (from Los Angeles) and pay him cash in person. Then he suggested an insurance company rep come down with the cash or check. It was late in the evening so options were severely limited. At this point my stress levels are through the roof. As I began shouting at this inconsiderate goon, Kathy never lost her composure, though that would have been completely understandable with the kind of nonsense the tow yard was giving us.

Kathy said she would figure out a solution and call me back. I didn’t have a lot of hope. I started checking for next day flights to Vegas to pay the tow yard in person. The flights would have cost me more than the fees themselves.

I spent 30 restless minutes all the while hoping Kathy was working her magic. It’s a fairly helpless feeling having your car at a shady tow yard in another state.

When the phone rang I was expecting the worst but Kathy’s sweet, reassuring voice greeted me with the news that my car was already on the truck. She got the driver to go to the ATM and take out his own money to pay the storage fees! Unbelievable.

The tow yard’s lack of compassion and indifference was defeated by Kathy’s resolve and dedication to customer service. And I could finally stop pulling out my hair.

Hope no one out there ever has to deal with a situation like this. If you do I hope you’ve got someone like Kathy to walk you through. It may not seem like it, but good customer service is still alive in America thanks to people like Kathy.

Thanks to her patience, professionalism and composure I was able to get through a very trying and stressful situation without blowing a gasket. As for the tow, done by RL Auto Transport, it went off without a hitch. The driver was friendly if not cheerful. They delivered my car on time and without a scratch making my life a whole lot easier. Great job guys! If I ever have to transport my ride across state lines again you can bet I’ll be calling Magic Carpet.

And I’ll ask for Kathy—my towing angel!!!
