Car Damaged During Shipping - Driver NOT insured

We recently used Auto Shipping Group for transport from LA to Jackson Hole. We called numerous companies and went with Auto Shipping Groups because they had great reviews and prices seemed in line with others. Their customer service team was great, until, we had an issue. My car was picked up on a flat bed trailer behind a Ford Truck. The flat bed didn't have the proper equipment to get my car unloaded safely once it had arrived to my destination. Basically, there was not enough clearance to get my vehicle off of the flat bed and it kept getting stuck. The flat bed was not properly equipped to unload my vehicle and should never have been used in the first place. I called Auto Shipping during the failed unloading process and they said don't worry - any damage is covered as noted in booking and just have him get my car off. My car was a brand new x5 and had HUGE holes underneath after taking it off. When I went to try to collect the money to pay for damage it was impossible. The driver, as it turns out, was NOT on the insurance policy. When I spoke to their Progressive rep he said the drivers company also had multiple complaints and wasn't even listed as a covered driver. I then called Auto Shipping Group again and they said sorry - can't help here as they were told this driver had insurance. They told me to go through my own insurance which I obviously did not want to do for multiple reasons. I asked them to cover the $ and they said no, it's against their policy (even though the reason we hired them was to find us a safe and insured driver, which they did not, so I found this odd). My take away is that they do not properly screen their drivers or double check insurance. BEWARE and always triple check the driver and insurance on your own, before they drive away for the car. Do not trust the brokers who say they are covered. Thanks.

Krista, As we explained numerous times, the carrier did show us proof of insurance. If the insurance company has policies in place that are unknown to us that is out of our control. When we call to verify insurance, they tell us the company is covered, they do not tell us names of each individual driver. As we have stated numerous times, we are sorry this happened, and did tell you to go through your insurance company and have them fight to get the damages covered. We as the broker are not in possession of your vehicle and did not cause the damage, as it states in our terms which you signed so now we are not liable for damages. We supported you and provided all documentation that we could, we spoke to Greg with Progressive with the carriers insurance company, and he kept telling us the same thing he was telling you.. Again we are sorry that this happened but we did everything we could do. 12. Auto Shipping Group Inc. and its agents must also be notified of any damage by phone within 24 hours. Shipper must submit in writing a description of damage, clear pictures, and 2 estimates within 10 days of receipt of said vehicle directly to the designated carrier for any resolution to be initiated. Auto Shipping Group Inc. will support you in this effort should such a problem occur, but in no way will Auto Shipping Group Inc. accept responsibility for any negligence of the assigned carrier. If your vehicle is valued at a higher than market rate, we suggest you purchase a special insurance rider OR pursue the enclosed transport option.
