A little about me so you don't think this is some lunatic on a rant. I am an officer in the Navy and a physician moving on military orders to PA. As you can appreciate my timeline is fixed. I booked a transport from San Diego to Hershey PA 3+ weeks prior to ship date and at that time spoke with company rep that the car needed to be in Hershey from 1-5 June and they could come get it whenever. I was reassured that it would not be a problem. The company then disappeared until I called them 2 weeks later. They told me they assign a carrier and it usually books from 1-5 days prior to it needing to leave. They told me it should leave around 22 May. They then disappeared again. No calls, no emails no status updates. I called 2 more times including on 22 May and was told the were working on it and that there were no guarantees. They were very nice on the phone and told me they would make it their priority. On 26 May I called back and they were still working on it. I called another comany (Magic Carpet Auto Transport) and they told me that with the price they quoted me they would likely be unable to move the car as drivers wouldn't take the contract for so little. I called Able back and soke with a gentleman who told me they were doing all they could do. I asked what this was and he told me "looking for a transporter." He was unable to answer me when I asked how this was different from wha tthey had been doing for 3 weeks. I spoke to a manager and she told me that CA was very busy and they were looking. I asked what they were doing with their commission? She told me they took a whopping $25 off their commission to move the car. Really? A whole $25 bucks? Drivers wouldn't touch the contract for the set price but now that it's $25 more they're execting people to jump on it? I brought this up to the woman and she said, "they might." These people are very unprofessional. No contact from them to me about status or what they were doing or anything. I honestly would have stayed with these people if they had done that or offered an apology or even made a reasonable offer to drivers out of their end. But they did not move. They finished our transaction off by arguing with me that they had been in the business for 22 years and knew what they were doing and that this wasn't out of the ordinary. Well, that didn't get my car moved. I told them that "all they could do" should include a call with updates and a good faith attempt to move the car by the date, an apology if they couldn't meet my needs and a reasonable reduction in their end if they were significantly over time. The manager did not have a response for me. I cancelled my order. I called Magic Carpet and within an hour it was booked with a driver that would pick it up the NEXT DAY and still deliver it within my time window. Cost me $100 more, which if Able had taken out of their end would have moved my car and they still would have made money. If service and timeliness are important to you this is not the company for you. If you do book with them be prepared to be hypervigilant in following up with them else they will vanish and your car will stay right where it is.
