Okay, so it took me a few interactions with car transport brokers before I figured out how this works. The broker makes a fixed fee when they find a company that can transport your car from point A to point B. You pay (1) the amount the transport company charges to transport your car plus (2) the fixed fee of the broker. These guys - Ship A Car Direct - charge $195 (after rebate); other brokers charge as little as $150.
The extra $45 is TOTALLY WORTH IT! These guys are competent and courteous. I explained my situation, how urgently I wanted to transport the car, and what I was willing to pay. They found a transport company that fit my criteria. (In contrast, the cheapo brokers I spoke with were rude, didn't understand my criteria and, in the end, failed to deliver.
5 Stars! I'd recommend this broker to anyone.
