My family has used 3 transport companies to go from OH to CA to NJ, and RoadRunner has had the best rates. The person who picked up the car was nice, and so was the drop-off person, but they weren't RoadRunner staff, but a part of "ETA Trans Inc." I never recieved a definite pickup time from the carrier until the day of, so that made planning to drop it off and pick it up a bit of a pain, though, I think that how most of the companies are (they usually call when they're 2 hrs out and then 30 min out so you can get to the meeting place). RoadRunner tried 2-3 times to try to get another $99+ out of us for "insurance," though I believe the actual transport company assigned for your shipment is insured in the case of damage being their fault, hence why they check the car carefully before accepting it for any damage (best to check the company actually carrying the car has insurance by getting the actual transport company's DOT number from RoadRunner)). It was easy enough to decline the insurance offer each time, though, and just take the nice base rate. Nothing happened to our cars with any of the companies we've used, but RoadRunner had the best base rate I could find. You might consider just using ETA Trans Inc. directly to perhaps cut the middle man and get a lower rate for cross-country trips, if possible.
