TERRIFYING situation

I had hired Direct Express Auto Transport on December 2, 2017 to transport my automobile from California to Maryland for $1035. I paid $185 in advance via Credit card. I have all of this as email documentation. When the driver arrived he wanted an extra $300 or else he would drive it away. I said this is like holding my car for ransom. He said he did not care and would insist on even MORE money if I did not pay the extra $300 at that moment. I could not believe this was happening. Direct Express had emailed me several times stating I only owed the balance of $850 but when I called them and told them of my current "hostage" situation - that even though the contract says I owe them the remaining balance of $850 - they said there was nothing they could do but for me to pay the extra $300. They said they would not pay me back. They were very calm about this so I must assume this happens frequently. I called the police - as the driver was very threatening - and they arrived but were unable to do anything as it is a civil situation and out of their hands unless he hits me. In the end, I took the Howard County, MD police advice and paid the extra $300 and they advised me to take this company to civil court. Even though it was actually Pride Transport, Inc, that DEAUCo. hired to transport my car, I do believe Direct Express Auto Transport should have paid the ransom of $300 to get my car off the transport truck. My advice to ANYONE is to really read the reviews and think about situations such as mine before you transport your car across country. This was one of the most terrifying situations that I have ever been involved with in my life.

Our outstanding reputation and thousands of satisfied customers speak for itself. We are sorry customer Valerie Portney is dissatisfied with the service, but her daughter Alexandra asked the driver upon pickup to transport extra items and agreed to the extra cost, which is cheaper than UPS. Unfortunately the daughter did not inform the mother, which caused the problem. Carriers transport cars and are not moving companies, unless you want to compensate them. We wish Ms. Portney lots of luck in all her future endeavors.
