Car Shipping Transport Time Varies Depending on Route. Here's Why:

The time it takes to transport your car from state-to-state varies depending on which states you need service on. For a truck driven by one single driver, standard times for delivery would be applied. For trucks driven by two or more drivers, the route would be completed much faster as multiple drivers would trade shifts. Drivers are generally allowed to drive 14 consecutive hours In which to drive up to 11 hours after being off duty for 10 or more consecutive hours. This limits the amount of time a driver is allowed to operate per shift which is enforced by the FMCSA.

To determine the amount of time it takes to ship a car from point A to point B, one must include drive time along with loading and unloading Plus customer service for each designated pick-up and delivery adding up to the total time it takes to transport your car to its final destination.

By looking at the above details, you will get an idea of the time it takes to have your car shipped from one state to another. The auto transport company you reserve with should be able to issue you more direct and accurate pickup and delivery times once your vehicle has been added to schedule.

Always remember, that when dealing with the roads, there is always a risk of delay. Your auto transport service provider should keep you updated every mile of the way.

Your pickup window begins on your first available pickup date and generally run 5 business days after unless you are shipping expedited. This is not part of your transit time. Your transit time is the number of days that it should take to transport your vehicle, and this will depend primarily on the distance that your vehicle will be transported. There are some other factors that may alter the expected transit time, such as weather or mechanical troubles. If your pickup or delivery location is in a rural area, you may also be able to speed up your transport and save some money by meeting your driver in or near a major metropolitan area.

This depends on the route. East Coast usually 7-10 days shorter routes 3-5 days once the vehicle is picked up.

2

Transit time

The drivers usually driver 400-500 miles per day

2

How long does it take to transport my vehicle?

500 mi & under overnight - 3 days depending on stops before yours

1500 +/- mi as few as (3) as many as (7) depending on amount of stops and amount of vehicles on the truck.. A 3/4 car carrier will make it the quickest 3/4 days. A 10 car carriers will take 5-7 days after pick up

Cross Country 7-10 days after pick up.

2

Depends on the route

Once the vehicle is physically on the truck the estimated ship time does vary on the length of transport. Generally cross country you are looking at a transit time of 7-10 days. 3/4 of the country is generally about 5-7 days. North to South is about 3-5 days. State to state could take about a day or two. These dates are all ESTIMATIONS. Sadly no company can ever guarantee a specific date of pick up or delivery. Any company that offers that, I would advise you to run away from that company. It is tough in this industry to get a carrier ASAP so it is best to book in the transport at least a week before the First Available Date to ensure the transport goes smoothly without any hick-ups or stress. Its best to look for those companies that are honest and upfront about their policies to ensure you are not walking into a company that will promise you the world but not live up to their part of the bargain.

From Order to Pick-up time line

Car transport usually takes between 1-6 calendar days from the date a car is picked up to when it’s dropped off.   A driver typically covers about 500 miles per day. The first available pickup date for car shipping is most often 2-7 business days after an order is placed, and express auto transport is frequently available in 24-72 hours.

From Order to Pick-up...

Your pickup window depends on whether you select "open/standard" or "express" shipping.

Standard Shipping pickup date is usually 2-7 business days after your order is placed. Actual pick-up and drop-off dates may have a margin of +/- 1 or 2 days.

Express Shipping offers pickup within 1-3 days and a choice of guaranteed (a) pickup date or (b) drop-off date or (c) shortest possible time-interval between pickup and drop-off. Express not available on all routes.

Then after Pick-up,

the following date-ranges are typical.

Miles

  • 0 – 200
  • 200 – 600
  • 600 – 1000
  • 1000 – 1500
  • 1500 – 2000
  • 2000 – 2400
  • 2400 and up

Calendar Days

  • 1 to 2 days
  • 1 to 3
  • 2 to 3
  • 3 to 5
  • 4 to 7
  • 5 to 8
  • 7 to 9

Of course while the "rule of thumb" above can be helpful, actual times may vary depending on

  • Season
  • Demand
  • Traffic
  • and occasionally even Acts of God.

How many days in advance should car transport be scheduled?

We recommend you call us at least 3-10 days before you need pickup -- but not more than 2 weeks in advance. We look forward to serving you.

Once we receive an order from our customer and the vehicle is available for loading we load 99% of all vehicles within 5 days unless the pickup location is remote.   Delivery time depends upon the route but we will always give you a accurate estimate with the goal of always being on time or early.

2

Hard to be accurate

Many times folks are told anything they want to hear in order to get the business.

Realistically it is difficult to coordinate many vehicles and owners from multiple pick ups to multiple deliveries.

Lots of obstacles and Federal regulations which slow the process down at times.

It is a difficult job to accompolish.

Be sure to have a back up plan! Always a good idea.

A loaded truck can cover up to 700 miles in a day without a bunch of loading and unloading in the process.

This info is primarily for long distance shipments.

2

Transport times

The time it takes to transport your vehicle depends on the miles it is being transported, generlly, carriers are able to drive 500 miles per day, so for example, a 2000 mile trip would generally take about 4 days.

Typically drivers cover around 500 miles per day. Keep in mind, they may have other vehicles on their truck they have to deliver and traffic and weather play a part as well. Your representative will be able to give you a estimated delivery time frame when they reserve your shipping.

2

Transit times

The rule of thumb for transit times are based of mileage/ hours. All drivers have to comply to ELD (electronic log data) guidelines. which a allows a driver to run his/her route until they have to shut the truck down to reset. a typical day for a driver is 600 miles per day or 8 hours. Also, you must factor in 1-2 days of stoppage time, delays, pick up and drop off of other vehicles on the route

That depends on a variety of factors

The dates of pickup and delivery depend on a variety of factors.

When trucking a car coast-to-coast, it will take 7-10 days after the pickup for the car to be delivered. The car carriers are allowed to drive approximately 500 miles a day. There might be some delays because of weather conditions, possible problems with the truck, daily log reset, delays in other delvieries, etc.

Suppose you are working with a broker company. In that case, they will need a timeframe before the pickup to contract with a reliable and professional carrier company to transport your vehicle safely and on time. During the timeframe before the pickup, the car should be available. The broker will need a timeframe that will be mentioned when providing a quote. In our case, the timeframe is 1-7 days starting the first available date. It does not mean that we need precisely seven days for the pickup. It may be picked up on the first day of availability. It can take seven days only in some rare cases when we do not have a driver on the shipment route.

We start working on the shipment starting the date specified by the customer. When booking with us, please specify the first available date considering a 7-day time frame.

How Long it Takes

How long it takes to ship a car depends on a few factors. The most common is of course distance. Carriers drive anywhere from 300-500 miles per day.  The variation will be determined by the compexity of the route, weather conditions, required rests periods, and safety.

Below is an example:

Miles to/fromDays Until Delivery
0-4001 Day
401-5501-2 Days
551-11002-3 Days
1001-15003-4 Days
1501-20004-6 Days
2001-25006-8 Days
2501+7-10 Days

Estimated Transit Times

5-10 days

1

The transit time

It depends on the time of the year and the length of your route. If there is one driver in the cab, he can do around 350mi up to 400mi per day. The teams of drivers do it way faster, they can make from 500mi to 700mi a day!

1

Depends....

It really depends on the distance of the route. For example a trip from NY to CA usually takes 7-10 days. A trip from NY to FL usually takes 2-4 days.

depends on location of the pick up and delivery

1

This all depends on distance, the number of vehicles ahead of you logistically in line to be dropped off. Cross country auto transport is typically 10-12 days with inclement weather. Example wa-nj or east coast. Fl to the east coast our carrier in our carrier network run the route in 2-3 days . fl-oh 3 days. Fl-tx auto transport takes with us 3-5 days. california to florida auto shipping with us takes 5-7 days with bad weather. il-fl auto transport takes 3-5 days. wa-fl auto shipping takes 7-10 days. Again we always ensure the carrier will call you with proper advance notice BOTH at pick up and drop off to ensure you are ready

1

Transit Time Depends On Your Route

Typically, auto shipping is a fairly easy and quick process. Giving a definitive answer on how long is a little complicated. From the time of booking your order, your vehicle is picked up within 1-7 days. Depending on the origin and destination locations all depends on the time. Coast to coast moves can take anywhere between 7-10 days transit time. It all depends on your route.

1

How to Calculate the Length of Time it will take to Ship your Vehicle

The average transit time from pick up to delivery on any vehicle going coast to coast will be between one and two weeks. From there you can figure your transit time based on how far your vehicle is traveling, i.e. from either coast to the Midwest might average 3-7 days.

About transportation process

According to the regulations in the industry, carriers are making around 400 mi per day. Even if that’s 2 drivers in one truck they still going to make about 500 mi a day.

1

Average transit time is about 5 days. But can vary based on distance / mileage.

1

This varies significantly

When you finalise shipping your vehicle with us, we will give you an estimated delivery date (this can vary widely depending on a number of factors), such as how many vehicles are on the carrier for the specific route.

If the carrier is dropping off multiple cars en route this can affect the delivery estimate.

We are usually able to give you an approximate number of days for your vehicle delivery.  This can be updated by contacting the driver for any changes en route.

1

Depends on how far you are traveling

Cross Country could take 10-14 days depending on the carrer, others can get it done in 4.
If you work with a transport specialist, they will be able to estimate how long you can expect for the transport to be complete.  Drivers typically drive about  600 miles per day.

1

The Misconception of Delivery Dates

Based on current D.O.T. regulations, mandatory mileage for individual drivers across the country and interstate transportation is ~400-500 miles daily. When providing estimated time frames it is a common practice to give a two-day window for both pickup and delivery in order to give extra room in case of a delay. A single flat tire, traffic or weather could severely change our initial time frame. In this regard to Garcia’s Auto Transport and Logistics, we always communicate as much information as possible to the customer on what to do and expect in every situation. All drivers call at least 3 hours in advance before arriving at each location. This way we ensure our customers don’t have to deal with unnecessary waits.

1

Anxious to get your car?

Depending on the distance, it can take anywhere from 1 to 8 days to deliver your vehicle. Below are some approximations, but it is best that you contact us with the specific route.

East Coast to West Coast Auto Transport – approx. 6-7

Midwest to East Coast Auto Transport – approx. 2-6 days

South to North Auto Transport – approx. 5-8 days

1

Transport Time Frame

Based on mileage, once your vehicle has been picked up, it will typically be delivered within anywhere from one to ten days. Generally, every five hundred miles travelled will add a day to the time you wait for your car to be delivered. However, with unpredictable factors such as traffic and weather in play, it could take slightly longer than expected to deliver your vehicle.

1

Transit time

Once your vehicle is on the carrier, it typically takes 7-10 days for the driver to go across the country. If your stop is in between the coasts, your vehicle should be delivered sooner.

1

The million dollar question!

Many factors play into the time frame including, but not limited to, pick-up and delivery locations, time of year, possible unforeseen road delays, etc.

In a perfect world, pick up will be within 1-7 days and delivery within 1-10 days depending on the total distance. Keep in mind, in most cases shipping and delivering within 30 miles of a metropolitan will make things run cheaper, smoother and quicker so make sure to explore all options. Every move is different and should be treated on an individual basis!

It is suggested to be as flexible as possible with dates, within reason of course. It is not advised to book a flight or commit to any concrete plans that may revolve around shipment, things do go wrong that are out of human control. Any reputable broker or carrier will tell you, EXACT DATES ARE NEVER GUARANTEED! Wait until you have a set pick-up and delivery date(s) for shipment, leave margin for error and always have a back up plan!

1

This is determined by many variables that many brokers do not tell you!

Transport time(s) are determined on many factors such as...the number of cars also being transported/delivered on their trailer, mileage, and most importantly if the carriers are single or team drivers. Drivers must adhere to the USDOT regulations and can only drive a certain number of hours daily. Now with the new USDOT electronic logs, it is very strict and virtually impossible for drivers to drive longer than htey should. This was caused by many accidents by sleepy drivers. We prefer, and typically, use team drivers as they can drive double the amount of hours, making their schedules much faster and safer.

1

7-10 days coast to coast

The average waiting time to have your vehicle picked up from the first available pick up date is 2-3 days, depending on the pick up and delivery locaiton. Once the vehicle has been picked up, depending on how far your car is going to, it will be put in one of the three categories. Shorter distances typically take 2-3 days, if you  are moving half way accross the country 3-5 days. Almost on the other side of the country would mean 5-7 days and coast to coast could take 6-9 days for your vehicle to be delivered. Each transport scenario is different, depending on weather, pick up or delivery locaiton and the budget that is set for a particular transport.

This all depends on the distance...

The auto transport industry is a Federally regulated industry.  Truck drivers are only allowed to drive so many hours a day and have to rest.  In a perfect world and perfect driving conditions, an auto hauler could drive 600 miles a day.  That is usually lessened because of traffic, road construction, weather, refueling, picking up/delivering vehicles, etc..  Normally, a hauler can get 500 miles a day on the road with these normal occuring issues.

Here are some routes and normal transport times to help gauge from:

Florida to New York -- 3-5 Days

Michigan To Texas -- 4-6 Days

New York ro California -- 6-8 Days

Florida to Washington -- 8-10 Days

We hope this helps answer the question!

Car Shipping Carriers

1

Truck drivers can drive about 500 miles a day, give or take. For Example:

100-500 miles takes 1 to 2 days

500-1000 miles takes 2 to 3 days

1000-1500 miles takes 3 to 5 days

1500-2000 miles takes 4 to 7 days

2000-2500 miles takes 5 to 8 days

2500-3000 miles takes 7 to 10days.

1

base on distance

its all base on distance and traffic time

1

There are moajority of factors, starting when your car will be ready, if the person accepting the vehicle at the delivery will be free to pickup the car any moment, what route is driver taking, how many vehicles is he collecting through out his route, usually drivers give 5 day window for pickup and for delivery.

How long does it take to transport a car across the country Generally, it takes 12-15 days to ship a car cross-country door-to-door in the United States. A car shipping company will usually pick up your vehicle within 5 days, while transportation will usually take between 7 and 10 days. This can vary depending on weather conditions, traffic, other customers’ schedules, and the nature of their trip.

Why does shipping a car take so long?

1

It totally depends on the Miles

The time it takes to transport your vehicle depends on the miles it is being transported, generally, drivers are able to drive 500 miles per day, if everything is OK like weather and traffics

1

How long does it take to transport my vehicle?

The time it takes to transport your vehicle can vary depending on several factors, including the distance of the transport, the type of transport, and the availability of carriers.

Generally, the following are some estimated time frames for different types of vehicle transport:

Local transport (within a few hundred miles): Typically takes 1-2 days.

Regional transport (within a few states): Typically takes 3-5 days.

Cross-country transport (across the United States): Typically takes 7-14 days.

However, these are just general estimates, and the actual time it takes to transport your vehicle may be longer or shorter depending on various factors.

It is important to note that some factors outside of the transport company's control, such as weather or traffic conditions, can also impact the transport time. It is always a good idea to check with the transport company for an estimated transport time for your specific situation.

In addition, if you need your vehicle to be transported within a specific time frame, it is recommended to schedule the transport as far in advance as possible to ensure availability and to discuss any expedited transport options that may be available.

Some estimates can be here :

>500 miles: 1-2 Days
500-1000 miles: 1-3 Days
1000-1500 miles: 2-4 Days
1500-2000 miles: 3-5 Days
2000-2500 miles: 4-6 Days
2500-3000 miles: 5-7 Days
3000-3500 miles: 6-8 Days

1

It Depends on the Route

Delivery time greatly varies with the lenght of the route. For short 200-300 miles, both pick-up and delivery could happen the same day, for longer 2500-3000 miles routes, it could take 7-10 days.

1

What is the transport time of shipping my vehicle?

The duration of vehicle transport can vary depending on several factors, including the distance between the pickup and delivery locations, the specific route, and the availability of carriers. While there is no fixed timeline applicable to all situations, here are some general considerations regarding pick-up and delivery time frames:

  1. Distance: The distance plays a significant role in determining the overall transport time. Longer distances typically require more time for planning, coordination, and actual transit. For example, shipping a vehicle within the same state or a neighboring state may take a few days, while cross-country shipments may take one to two weeks or more.

  2. Carrier Availability: The availability of carriers can affect the pick-up and delivery time frames. If a carrier is readily available near your location, it may result in a shorter waiting period for pick-up. However, during peak seasons or in remote areas, it may take longer to find an available carrier, which can impact the overall transport time.

  3. Scheduling and Route Planning: Auto transport companies usually plan their routes and schedules to optimize efficiency and minimize delays. Once your vehicle is assigned to a carrier, they will determine the best route and schedule for pick-up and delivery. The specific dates and times will depend on factors such as the carrier's existing route and any other vehicles being transported.

  4. Special Circumstances: Certain circumstances can affect the transport time frame. For example, if you require expedited shipping or have specific delivery requirements, it may result in faster transport but could involve additional costs. Additionally, adverse weather conditions, road closures, or other unforeseen events may cause delays in transportation.

To get a more accurate estimate of the pick-up and delivery time frames for your specific situation, it's recommended to contact auto transport companies directly and provide them with the necessary details such as the origin, destination, and desired timeframe. They can provide you with more precise information based on their availability and scheduling.

How long does it take to transport my vehicle? What is a typical pick up and delivery time frame?

This varies by pick up location and dsitance to delivery loctaion, which wil be thoroughly explained upon booking.

0

It depends.

It depends on the route and how many miles you're planning to transport.

0

Depends on several factors:

Here's a detailed explanation of what can impact the transportation timeline:

Distance: The distance your vehicle needs to travel is a primary factor. Generally, shorter distances will result in quicker transit times, while longer distances may take more time.

Shipping Method: The choice of shipping method can affect the timeline. Open transport is the most common and cost-effective option, but it might take slightly longer as it involves multiple vehicles on a single trailer. Enclosed transport, on the other hand, can be faster because it provides more protection and is often used for expedited services.

Location and Route: The specific pickup and delivery locations, as well as the chosen route, can impact transit times. Urban areas and popular routes tend to have more frequent transport options and shorter transit times.

Seasonal Demand: The time of year can affect transport times. High-demand seasons, such as summer, may have longer lead times due to increased booking requests.

Carrier Availability: The availability of carriers also plays a role. If a carrier is readily available, your vehicle can be scheduled for transport sooner.

Scheduling Flexibility: Being flexible with your pickup and delivery dates can help speed up the process. If you have a specific timeframe in mind, it's essential to communicate this with our team during the booking process.

Customized Services: We offer various service levels, including standard, expedited, and guaranteed delivery options. Choosing an expedited or guaranteed service will ensure a faster transportation timeline.

Preparation: Ensuring that your vehicle is ready for transport when the carrier arrives can prevent delays. This includes removing personal belongings, disabling alarms, and ensuring that the vehicle is in proper working condition.

It's important to note that while we make every effort to provide accurate estimates, unforeseen circumstances, such as weather, traffic, or mechanical issues, can occasionally impact delivery times. It can vary

The duration of vehicle transport can vary depending on several factors, including the distance traveled, route complexities, and logistical considerations. Typically, our team strives to provide efficient pick-up and delivery services within reasonable time frames.

For domestic shipments within the same country, the typical pick-up window ranges from 1 to 7 days, depending on your location and availability. Once your vehicle is loaded onto our transport carrier, delivery times can vary based on the distance and route.

For international shipments, including cross-border transports, delivery times can vary significantly based on factors such as customs clearance procedures, distance, and transportation mode (e.g., sea freight or air freight). International shipments typically require additional time for processing and coordination, with delivery times ranging from 1 to 8 weeks, depending on the destination and shipping method.

Rest assured, our team at Skyline Moves is committed to providing timely and reliable transportation services. We'll work closely with you to ensure transparency and keep you informed throughout the entire process, from pick-up to delivery. If you have specific delivery requirements or time constraints, please let us know, and we'll do our utmost to accommodate your needs.

Length of time it would take to transport a vehicle

The duration of vehicle transportation can vary based on several factors, including the distance, specific route, weather conditions, and carrier availability. Typically, shorter distances may take a few days, while longer journeys spanning across states or regions might require a week or more. Additionally, factors such as scheduling, loading/unloading, and any unforeseen circumstances on the road can influence the overall timeline.

It depends on from where it is being picked up to its destination. East Coast to West Coast and vice versa, usually 7-10 days.

Shipping Times are always estimates

Shipping a car could take several hours or several days. Transportation time is split up in two frames – pick-up window and delivery window. How long each window takes depends mainly on distance and location.

How long does it take to ship a car?

In logistics, by distance, we mean the exact number of miles a carrier has to travel to transport your vehicle. The exact location is another important factor that affects transport times and cost. However, other factors such as supply and demand fluctuations, road, weather and traffic conditions, as well as potential truck failures affect transport time.

As mentioned above, the total time for transporting a vehicle splits in time for pick-up and time for delivery of a vehicle. This is important to remember because both windows often vary in time. Moreover, time is always an estimate when it comes to transport.

Pick-up window time

The pick-up window is the time it takes to pick-up a vehicle. This time window starts from the first available date you designate. This is not part of the transit time and it takes on average from 1 to 5 business day. The time is always an estimate due to various factors.

When it comes to picking up a vehicle the exact location always affects the time it takes to assign a truck and send it to pick up the vehicle.

A major factor that affects the time it takes to assign a carrier and have it pick-up your vehicle is the supply and demand situation. This factor directly correlates with current market price of shipping a vehicle on a certain route. Based on whether you are ready to pay the current market price we can tell you how long it will take to assign a carrier. When supply is high this means faster service because there are more available trucks. When demand is high this means less available trucks and higher prices. When you are on a budget this means you may need to wait a bit for the demand peak to return to normal so you can book at a lower rate. This means waiting a few extra days. Supply and demand usually change daily, which means you don’t have to wait too long for a better deal.

If you are shipping a car from a remote and/or rural area, the pick- up window may take longer because exact location always affects the time for pick-up. When your pick-up location is away from a major city or highway, what you can do is meet the truck driver at or near a major city or by a major highway. This can expedite the pick-up process as well as lower your rate.

Other factors that affect pick-up window time are road and weather conditions, as well as traffic. Based on your exact pick-up location, road, weather and traffic conditions could slow down the process. Such factors are unpredictable and that is why we always emphasize that pick-up date and time are estimates. Road construction or closures, bad weather or unexpected traffic jams could prevent the truck driver from reaching your pick-up location at the appointed date or time.

Another rare factor that could affect pick-up date and time is possible truck failures. Failures to the driving train do not happen often but are not excluded. Most of the auto transport carriers in the country are older models and break-downs are possible.

Delivery window time

The second time window we take into consideration when shipping a car is the time it takes to deliver your vehicle once it has been picked up from the designated from you address.

As you see in the transit time table, the delivery time depends mainly on the distance. An estimated delivery date is provided, but factors such as weather and road conditions, as well as traffic could affect delivery time after the pick. Truck failures could also slow down the delivery.

You can request a guaranteed delivery date and time, but you have to specify this at booking. Our agents will give you a customized quote and arrange the transport.

Take a look at our transit times table below to get an idea of how long it takes to deliver a vehicle based on distance only.

Just like with the pick-up window, delivery time can be affected by the same factors, excluding supply and demand. Bad weather, traffic, road conditions or truck failures could delay delivery. However, drivers always work hard to make sure they stick to their schedule. Lost time is always a loss of profit and not a single carrier wants that. Drivers always keep customers informed about estimated delivery time, so you will always know where your vehicle is at and when it is coming.

Another important factor to mention here is speed limits. Truck drivers can not and should never speed because this could lead to fatalities on the road. The importance of adhering to regulations is huge. Truck drivers have an immense responsibility when on the road. They must follow their speed limits, they must rest when needed and stick to their work hours.

We emphasize that time is always an estimate and detail all these factors that can possibly delay a truck, but this does not mean it happens all the time. It is simply good to know that transportation is an industry that depends on many outside factors and is also heavily regulated. To all these factors we can add good communication between agents, dispatchers and truck drivers is also important to guarantee a successful vehicle transport service.

When your service is booked with us and vehicle(s) picked-up we stay in close contact with you and with the truck driver. This is how we guarantee professional service and build relations with our carriers and our customers that last. We provide you with the carrier’s number so you can get regular updates on your vehicle’s location. Carriers always call before pick-up to confirm location and time. Then before delivery, the truck driver calls one day in advance and then a couple of hours in advance to specify the delivery date and time of your vehicle.

If you have any questions please call or email us. We are here to help you understand how auto transport works and ship your vehicle with confidence and peace of mind. Thank you.

Amount of days for delivery.

Time frames for delivery depend on distance of route. A good rule of thumb to follow is North to South/South to North FL-NY/NY-FL on average takes 3-5 days. West to East/East to West NY-CA/CA-NY on average takes 7-10 days. Knowing this information its easier to figure out estimated transit time for routes in between. FL-NC, 2-3 days. NY to NE 5-7 days.
