Overall I am happy with the service given as a broker by Amerifreight. Then again who couldn't find a carrier at almost $1500? Graham was very knowledgeable and explained the process well. He answered every call i made to him almost immediately which felt good when I was stressed about my shipment.

My complaint is with the industry process as a whole. Once the broker has gotten you to raise your price up enough for the carrier to take it on the listing board that everyone uses they have earned their fee ($150 - ??). I don't really have a problem with that business has to earn money somehow after all. The brokers are there to hopefully vet the carriers to some degree, although with so many not sure how they can do this reliably, but they at least check the basics. The problem comes in if you need your vehicle picked up by a certain date or delivered by a certain date.

If you are flexible at both ends then no problem you can start with a lower offer and wait for pickup & delivery. However, for anyone on a time schedule this process can be interrupted by any number of issues that are out of your control. My carrier's truck broke down and had to be repaired which delayed the pickup date considerably. What you have to understand about this process is the premium paid to the broker (i.e. paying more for faster pickup) was totally negated by this unexpected breakdown and because this was already a binding contract with the carrier you are locked in without much recourse. Your option of breaking the contract loses the broker fee and forces you back in the premium game probably at a higher price.

As long as you go in with your eyes open and don't believe anything about actual dates coming or going you won't be stressed. :)
