I needed to determine if it was cost effective to ship an '05 Impala about 600 miles. I did an online search to find suitable companies. The first company I received a quote from would charge me $695. That was acceptable to me. However, their online reputation was horrible. I told them not to contact me again. The second company I contacted was Amerifreight. They gave me a quote of $595. I had already vetted them online so I knew I would use them when I was ready to ship the vehicle. I purchased a replacement vehicle about two weeks later. Now I was ready to ship the Impala. I left a message for Lecia of Amerifreight through email and phone on a Saturday. I work so my wife had to be the point person. Lecia called back early Monday and my wife made the deposit and had to sign off on liability issues that needed to be addressed. We were told that the car would be picked up later on Monday or Tuesday AM. I was given a contact number for the actual hauler. I called them when I got home from work on Monday afternoon. They reiterated that they would try to pick up that night,if possible. I was given a call that the pickup would occur @ 10:30 PM. I called dispatch @ 11PM and was told the driver was in my area, but could not navigate down some of the narrow streets. The driver called me directly and he was parked two blocks away on a busy street. I was a little apprehensive to drive the car the two blocks as I had no plates on the vehicle having transferred them to another vehicle. I walked over to meet the driver and he walked back with me. He inspected the vehicle to make sure we both agreed on the initial condition of the car. He was the nicest driver I have met in quite some time. He obviously enjoyed his work. I give him a lot of credit driving all over the nation in a big car hauler and then trying to coordinate for the pickups/deliveries. We were told the vehicle would be delivered on Wednesday. My sister received a call on Wednesday @ 2:30 PM. He was parked about two blocks from her house. She walked to the intersection, paid him the remaining $300 and drove the car two blocks to her residence. The main thing to realize is that these haulers are crisscrossing the US at all times. Hopefully, one is nearby for your pickup. They cannot drive down small streets so be prepared to meet them somewhere near. It may also be a little later into the night than you would like, but that's the way it goes. You have to work to get these guys on their way.
