I did my research to try to find a broker to move my car from Illinois to Oregon. I read reviews to try to find a broker that I could trust, and sadly to say every broker had some complaints which is to be expected. The main complaint was that cars weren't picked up in the time frame that was promised.

I decided to go with Auto Shipping Group, since their bad reviews weren't as horrible as some of the others that I had read. It must have been my lucky day, when I called and Malia answered. She asked me if I knew how the car transportation business worked, and I replied, "no." She quickly informed me that I am bidding on the services of a trucking company. The broker makes a commission and the bulk of the money bid goes to the actual company moving the vehicle. You can get all the free online quotes that you want, but if the quote/bid is too low, your vehicle will sit and no trucking company will accept the bid. She has access to a list of types of cars, where they are being shipped, what the bid is, and how long the cars have sat without getting picked up by a trucking company. She e-mailed me a portion of that list to demonstrate how the process works. From the data, I could see that the quote that Auto Shipping Group had sent to me a few days ago, would not guarantee that my car would get picked up, so I bid $100 more. Malia felt that was a good price to start at, and she felt confident that some trucking firm would accept the bid. Perhaps if other companies would just be open and honest with their customers about the process, how much the commission is, and what a fair price for auto transport would be, then people would understand what they are dealing with. It's not helpful if those free quotes are too low and the car sits in the driveway with no pickup. I certainly don't resent paying $100 more than my original quote (10% higher) if I know it's fair bid and that there's an excellent chance that my car will get picked up.

Over the past seven years I have shipped thousands of vehicles, and every customer gets nothing less than FIVE STAR service. Everyone inquiring about auto transport deserves an explanation of this industry. I feel that I have done my job to help them make a smart decision even if they do not choose to use my company.
