Finding better seems unlikely

I shipped via Martha at Auto Shipping Group and I'm happy to recommend.

Here's what I learned shippng a car for the first and likely only time...

It's not like Fedex where every single step of the journey is predictable. It's more like hitch-hiking, a practice that I can't remember the last time I heard of an instance of... or maybe it's more like your college rideshare bulletin board.

At any rate- I had to ship a car to my brother. Coast to coast. LA to New Hampshire. And I didn't want to turn it over to some Craigslist pothead who was going to follow the Melissa Etherige tour and then head to see his girlfriend at Dartmouth or whatever. That this car carrier service is even possible seems pretty awesome. That's 3000 less miles on the car.

Anyway- what I learned, and what Martha explained better than some, is that when you ship a car. you're basically raising your hand and saying 'hey, who can give my 3000 pound uncle a ride to place-X.' You can't just presume- you have to be willing to put up gas money. The people who pay a little more are gonna get faster service from the ones doing the long haul.

Offer less, and the hauler is going to pass you over. Which is why someone with a similar car heading to new england, but making a lower offer, can end up waiting around weeks for a taker. I gather this is a source of major frustration in reviews hereabouts.

I was lucky in that my car was on the small side and while ATG's number was a few bucks higher than some, it was the number that got a fast reply. Within a day of placing my order, Martha had
a shipper, and a couple days after that he picked up the car I was shipping. These gantries are pretty cool. If you ever have a minute to watch one get reconfigured, it's worth it. The hydraulics must be amazing.

Anyway, the shipper took a day longer than we thought, but I'm not peeved about that since my car still got to my brother faster than if I'd tried to go a few bucks cheaper. One other consideration is the insurance. I still needed to keep the car on my insurance until my brother registered it and got New Hampshire plates. An extra week waiting for a carrier would have actually been more expensive, I'm guessing, since the savings on shipping would be offset by an added week of insurance on a car that's just sitting there.

I can tell that Martha is busy, but she was still responsive, and returned calls. I have no qualms about a full recco.
