PROS: Trustworthy, reasonably prompt service, accommodating pickup & delivery driver
CONS: Response time from my rep was longer than desirable.

I recently moved from Washington DC to Austin, TX and needed to ship my 2013 Audi A4. I found AmeriFreight online, and they seemed to be a pretty reputable company. I received a quote from a rep that varied based on how short of a pickup window I was looking for: the shorter the window, the more costly the service. This seemed pretty reasonable. I decided on a 1-5 day pickup range because I had and rental car and was flexible.

The rep who listed my vehicle causes some frustration by not returning my calls in what I would consider to be an acceptable time frame. As I was trying to lock in my pricing & pickup date and get status updates, it would sometimes take 4 voicemails over a couple of days before I heard back from him. His response would be "I'm sorry I missed you" or "I was off the other day". If you're shipping my car - a very important personal possession - you need to respond by the end of the day. A response within 24 hrs should be worst case. Ultimately this part of the equation didn't seem to ruin my overall experience. It was just a bit annoying when you're trying to coordinate so many logistics for a cross-country move.

After a day or two, I hadn't received any interest once my request was posted on the AmeriFreight job board for drivers (or however that part works). I called in to ask my rep for an update, and he said we should probably wait a little bit before we increased our offer so the drivers don't think I'm desperate and, in turn, charge a higher rate. I appreciated his advice and concern for my overall cost. I decided I wanted my car ASAP so I asked him to reach out. Within a hour or two (coincidence?) he found an enclosed truck that would be passing through my area in the next day or two and could pick up my car for an extra $300 on top of what I was willing to pay. My rep said that it wasn't a bad price for an enclosed vehicle. I had elected for their gap insurance coverage for $95 to protect my exposed vehicle, so once I removed since I'd have the enclosed trailer, it was only a $205 upcharge. I decided to take it.

I had flown to Austin by the time the driver was in the DC area so I had a friend meet the driver. That part went very smooth. The driver was on time and courteous.

I was able to stay in touch with the driver via phone and text throughout his trip to Austin. He was always responsive in giving me status updates.

Once he was 24 hours away, we arranged a meeting place, and he gave me a 1 hour heads up before arrival. Once we met up, he had already unloaded my car and we checked for any damage. No damage. I signed off on the delivery, paid him and went on my way. The exchange took less than 3 minutes.

Overall my experience was positive. I think the biggest concern with shipping your car is feeling that you can trust the company with such an important possession. Despite some minor customer service issues with returning my calls promptly, I would use the company again because my car arrived safe & sound in a reasonable timeframe at a reasonable price. Based on my experience, I recommend AmeriFreight for your vehicle shipping needs.
