We have not shipped a car in almost 15 years. We spoke with Bob at Amerifreight and he walked us through what they do, how shipping works, and what to expect. Amerifreight is a broker, and they do not hide the fact. Which I liked. I also liked that I didn't have to go out and find a carrier for our car and that it was all supposed to be taken care of for us. Which it was. I paid for the upgraded service so that we would have a shorter window in which to have our car picked up, which was a nice option and I was glad that it was available. Our total was about $1545 to transport an 08 Nissan Sentra from Delaware to California. I received the carrier information in about a week, and Bob called to make sure that everything was still a "go" for our move - again, a very nice touch. I called the transporter that Bob sent me and spoke to their dispatch who told me that they would call a couple of hours before the truck showed up. I had ordered about 3 or 4 weeks in advance of our move, so there was plenty of time. All in all, our experience with Amerifreight was very good. On the down side, the transporters that were used were not the best at scheduling - they didn't come when they said they would, and when I called, they didn't even seem to be aware of our order. They finally sent two guys out to pick the car up and drive it to the the truck. Which was nice, but considering that they should have been there the day before, a little bit underwhelming. The driver was very friendly, and told me that he would call 24 hours before he arrived so that I could be ready. When they delivered at our destination though, they did not call 24 hours in advance like they said, and I was not at home when they were close. The driver called at 5pm said "I'll be there between 9pm and 10pm." Luckily I was on his driving path, so instead of racing him back to our house, I ended up meeting him about 2 hours out in a Wal-Mart parking lot and driving the car the rest of the way myself. This is not Amerifreight's fault, mind you, and had I been at the destination, just sitting around, this would not have been a problem. In fact, they were early, so it would have been a bonus. However, aside from the communication issues with the transporter (I said, "I'm not home" and he said "I'll call you when I'm 20 minutes from you.") and the fact that they almost didn't come get my car, it was not damaged in the move, nothing was missing, the price did not change from Bob's quote, and they did arrive early (again, it would have been nice had they called) which I know for some people is very important. So overall, a good experience with Amerifreight; a lesson learned with the transporter; and a car shipped cross country with nothing more than an interesting story to tell.
