Saved My Bacon by Sacrificing Commission

I intensively researched companies as it was the first time I shipped a vehicle. Amerifreight was usually around the top of most review lists, and I am very glad I went with them. I was shipping from northern California to upstate Vermont - an hour from the Canadian border. When it came time to ship, there was not much interest as it was not close to any busy destinations for pickups.
My bids started at $1050 and soon went up to $1250 and $1300. I was told that no trucker was interested at that price just a few days before my pickup period began. Then a supervisor/manager named Graham stepped in to assist my broker, Bob Turner. Graham said he would put a dispatcher on it, so I had three very active people calling and negotiating for me. The only response was a trucker asking $1650, and I rejected that and started making plans to drive cross-country. My wife and I just semi-retired and both of us have mild arthritis like many our age; neither of us were looking forward to a grueling drive when we were not interested in sightseeing along the way.
The next day Graham called and said the company would absorb a $200 reduction in their commision -from $250 to $50 just to make it all possible. My total cost was $1450 - a bargain under the circumstances. Don't know many companies these days that would offer that kind of service; it was a real blessing! The trucker was congenial and prompt, and the car arrived exactly when I wanted.
