Sub-contractor Trucking Company

SeaLand was fabulous, but their sub-contractpr the actual trucking company sucked. I waited around all afternoon on Friday afternoon waiting for my car to be delivered (as the dispatcher had promised) and my spouse finally called at 7:30 p.m. and was advised that there was a customer from Canada who refused to come and claim his vehicle and they couldn't unload mine (2nd tier) until he claimed his. On Sunday, after pushing the dispatcher, we went and found the truck (5 minutes from where we were!) to make sure the car was safe.

The truck had encountered mechanical problems on the previous Friday, but they never mentioned that. My brother-in-law actually went and found them a diesel mechanic who spoke fluent Russian (drivers were Russian) on the weekend to fix their truck and the company refused to pay the weekend repair rate. If they had fixed the truck on Friday they wouldn't have had to pay weekend rates in the first place.

On Monday afternoon they finally got the truck fixed, the Canadian customer had still not claimed their car, but miraculously they had been able to unload my car. I had paid for "enclosed" shipping, but my car was so filthy inside AND out we spent about a good amount of time (45 minutes?) trying to clean it up so we could drive it home. It was so dirty it was tough to tell if there was any damage to the car (scratches), but after a good washing it was perfect. So that is a positive!!

And finally, the truck driver asked us to pay the freight a second time - we had prepaid it through SeaLand and had the receipt with us... After a phone call and looking at the paperwork again the driver released us to go.

Next time if I can find a car I like locally I will do that instead...however, again, Sealand was terrific, but watch the trucking companies that subcontract with them. My son has used Sealand two times and both time had fabulous experiences with them. Guess it was simply my bad luck to get linked up with this particular trucking company.
