The move started out well enough- they were good about communication, keeping me informed, and scheduling. HOWEVER, they said I could put up to 100 pounds of items in the trunk without an additional charge. Later, after talking to other movers (after my car was moved), I found out that there is no way that a company can guarantee there will be no extra charge for putting items in the trunk unless they, themselves, are the ones doing the moving. Most of these moving companies farm out jobs to the people who do the actual transport based on whoever gives them the lowest bid on a move. So it is impossible for them to know at the time that they are contacted (and before the job is assigned), that you can put items in your car without an additional charge.

The way that I found this out was when I met the actual mover in New York for him to load the vehicle onto his truck. At that point, my trunk was obviously already packed, and he told me it would cost $150 extra. I obviously wasn't in a position to unload it or find someone else at this point, so I went ahead, feeling as though I had no choice. The guy was a real jerk about it too, acting like I should have known, when really, Door to Door should have informed me that this would be a possibility.
