Had a rough start, but it worked out

I'm amazed that this actually worked out. Auto transportation is a pretty sketchy business, and I had little confidence that I was not being taken advantage of when I started this process. Everyone I called said the online quote was out of date and that my costs would actually be higher.

Joe explained to be how this business works, which was very helpful. Almost everyone is a broker - hardly any of these guys have their own vehicles. 98% chance that your job will be given to a driver at another company. I learned that I would make an "offer" for how much I was willing to pay from CO to MA and that would be posted on a board where drivers could chose to accept my offer - or not. The price is essentially set by the drivers then because if I wasn't willing to pay enough, no one would accept my offer and transport my car.

So, Joe worked with me. One driver wanted $900, but I said no. One driver offered $850 initially, but then changed it to $900 after I agreed - I said no. I eventually wound up paying $50 more than I wanted to. I originally offered $800 and wound up paying $850. $100 went to the broker in the form of a deposit and the rest was paid to the driver COD.

My driver was great - he was on time, courteous and professional. He was nice to my elderly parents, who shipped the car to me. It all worked out, but I had very low expectations and expected to get screwed over.
