After reading up on car transport before an upcoming move (CA to VT, just about as far as you can go and still be in the USA), it became clear that it was an industry where 'deal' was pretty much synonymous with scam. At this point I just bit the bullet and found what seemed to be the most reputable and highly acclaimed company out there. Enter Amerifreight. The company was fantastic at providing me with all of the information needed and making it clear that that different pricing options also reflected probability of my car getting picked up. I was explained the brokerage system and how Amerifreight was an arranger and told exactly how much their fees vs. the shipper's fees were.
I wasn't on a tight schedule (international vacation in the middle of the move) so I started with the cheapest option available hoping that someone would bite. A month later when I was finishing up the vacation I called Amerifreight as a carrier hadn't taken the car yet. It was during the slow holiday season so carriers were few so we agreed to bump up the price a few hundred $ as it was getting imperative that I had my car soon. Within a couple days I had a carrier offer to take the car for $200 more than my original asking price with door-to-door service. Not too bad! The carrier arrived in VT a few days late necessitating that I rent a car for a couple days, but it was due to circumstances beyond their control and I don't begrudge them for it. That's life, ya' know?
All in all, Amerifreight helped me get my car from the southwestern most state in the country to (almost) the northeastern most. All while I was half the planet away in New Zealand, contacting them at weird times of the day and for only a couple spotty minutes at a time due to the international calling. It was also during a snowy holiday season. I'd imagine close to the most difficult shipment in the country to make. They always treated me courteously and new the details about the shipment.
If ever I ship a car again, I would unhesitatingly recommend them to anyone looking for a fair, honest broker.
