I was very divided over which company to use to ship my car from CA to NY, having both never done this before, and then being deluged with emails and phone calls from over-eager brokers. One of the reasons I went with Amerifreight was because they *weren't* over-eager, in fact.
The result of this was generally very good: Graham, who handled my order, was very up front, quite honest, and basically delivered what he promised, which was having my car picked up and delivered within the time window we'd agreed upon, and in good shape. But it wasn't like Graham was the only point person. The way these businesses work is they contract with actual trucking companies to transport your car. They set up the deal. Once the deal is set up you have point people at the trucking company to deal with, and maybe even a driver. In my case, i had something like 4 different people, and it wound up fine - they were all quite good. But it was still a little unnerving.
That said, the experience of having your car shipped is unnerving anyway. What i can say, is that the price i was given was exactly the price i paid - and this was for door to door service, which meant delivering to me in the middle of New York City. It was no problem, and there was no extra cost. The car was in perfect shape - no damage i could see anywhere. The price was fair - not super cheap but not too expensive: i paid about $1400 for door to door delivery within a ten day window, and i got my car exactly when i was supposed to.
