| So Unreliable I Cancelled My Transport |
I made the mistake of going through an Auto Transport broker. The broker was All American Auto Transport out of Miami, FL (888-402-7447). I made all of these arrangements November 22, 2006. They quoted me a price of $1,175 to transport my daughter's car from Miami to Seattle. The broker fee was $250 and the Transport fee was $925. I had asked for the car to be picked up on December 20th since my daughter had just graduated from college and was flying home on the 22nd. They told me that the Transport company would pick the car up on the 19th or 20th at my daughter's apartment. The carrier called me the afternoon of December 20th and told me that they would not be able to pick up the car until the 26th. I talked to Alex at American Auto Transport (aka US Auto Transport) (509) 489-6821, 3324 E. Bridgeport Avenue, Spokane, WA 99217, (509) 489-9766. He offered $75 off of the $927 fee for my inconvenience, but that didn't help the fact that my daughter would not be there to transfer the car to the driver on the 26th. I went back to All American Auto Transport for a resolution. My daughter ended up driving the car to a storage facility in Hallandale, FL and had to pay $35 for storing the car there until the 26th. The 26th came and went, with no pickup. I again contacted All American Auto Transport. They said that the car would now ship on January 2nd. That didn't happen either. I fired All American Auto Transport and American Auto Transport and went with Coast to Coast out of Idaho.
I think the main problem here is that even though $1,175 wasn't the lowest bid I received from brokers, after skimming off the broker fee, what I bought was a low cost, non-reputable transport company. American Auto Transport out of Spokane WA has an UNSATISFACTORY rating with the Better Business Bureau. When you go through a broker, you don't know who will be transporting your car. And the broker doesn't seem to have any control over the transport company.
My recommendation... Go directly to a reputable carrier like Coast to Coast who has their own trucks. The cost of shipping with them in my case is $1,200. That's $25 more than the broker/carrier combined fee. If I would have done that the first thing, our car would be here in Seattle, and I would have avoided the heart ache and frustration!
