As you begin this process, it is key to to comprehend that the Agent you deal with is JUST LIKE a Real Estate agent - but in reverse. A good real estate agent working with you, your needs and your desires - will sell your house for the most possible money, making it a win-win situation, using a common listing area (MLS) where all prospective buyers can choose your house based on price and features. The lower the price, the faster it sells. A good Auto Transport agent will understand your needs (exact delivery date span required and such) to strike the right price on their corresponding multiple listings, so that the various transporters will bite on that price and fill your needs.
I started out not realizing my "ship window" was pretty narrow, and was trying to ship two cars at an "economy rate" that was not attracting a lot of attention. As the dates came closer, I did realize that responsive timing was required. Graham at AmeriFreight helped me adjust the "ship price" (like the sale price of a home) up in increments until we attracted a shipper (for a house, you adjust down until you attract a buyer). The result was, I got my car picked up on the 4th of July weekend (trucker's national holiday), and shipped successfully out to Boulder, Colorado within 10 days.
I would use the group at AmeriFreight again. The shipper they used was responsive and the cars arrived without damage.
