I was never quoted $1,650. The first ASG quote I received via e-mail was for $1,425 ($225 for the broker and $1,200 for the carrier). However, when I spoke with Tige a few minutes later, he said that the ASG quote (generated by a computer) was too low and we needed to raise it to $1,575 ($225 for him and $1,350 for the carrier). I agreed to this increase.
A carrier agreed to pick up the car within a week and we were off. While the car was in transit, it came as quite a surprise that the carrier said it was owed $1,425 not $1,350. I called Tige and he confirmed that he had listed the job on Central Dispatch for $1,425 to the carrier, not $1,350.
I checked my records and confirmed that that the final shipping invoice I received in writing and approved on June 30, which is the Order number 1009695 referenced above, was for $1,575 ($225 for the broker and $1,350 for the carrier). I left Tige a detailed message. When Tige called me back a few days later, we only spoke a second before cell phone trouble on his end ended the call. We have not spoken since.
I liked Tige. He was knowledgeable and attentive up to the point of the car getting picked up. That is why I am giving him only a slightly below average score.
However, there was obviously an error at his office when the transport was listed with Central Dispatch. His office has not been attentive in responding to my concern. $75 is not the end of the world, but I just cannot recommend him. You learn most about people when there is a problem. There are literally hundreds of other brokers. I suggest you try someone else.
The carrier, Nick Transportation LLC, was great. I strongly recommend Nick and suggest you call him directly to try to avoid the broker fee. (He is out of Ohio, but he travels all over.) He is incredibly detailed-oriented and seemed to genuinely care about customer service. He e-mailed me a copy of his Certificate of Insurance within 5 minutes of my request. The pick-up and delivery were on-time. Moreover, because the delivery date was my son's 5th birthday, Nick offered to meet me at the restaurant where we were having the birthday dinner, so I would not have to leave the party to pick up the car. That is going above and beyond.
