Did not know what I was getting myself into

This is my first time shipping a car anywhere. I understand that transporting a car from NY to CA is a big distance. But do not make promises that cannot be kept. I rather the information be gathered before numbers be shot out at me. For example, I was given a quote of about $1200 and the Amerifreight representative stated that it would probably not be a problem finding a carrier. As I waited for a phone call or update of possible carriers, I decided to call them to find out if they had found anything because it was already a day after I expected my car to be shipped. He stated he had not found a carrier. Ok .... I would of liked to have known that earlier so that I could have found another shipping company. Then I received another phone call stating that they had found a carrier that was asking for more money. Ok... I was on a time restraint so I accepted. Basically had no choice at this point because I was already shipping my car late. When I asked if it could be shipped a couple of miles away from my original location in california because of the later shipping date and I would be moving. They said it would be $50 more. OK... It is what it is I guess because its what I needed. So originally thought I was paying $1200 and ended up paying $1550. Might not seem like a a huge difference but it is when you are leaving everything in NY and moving to CA.

Now for the carrier. He was nice enough. Picked up the car at the time that he stated. He went on to tell me that it would only take him 7 days to get to the shipping place. I thought wow thats great and would work perfectly with my plans because it would mean he would get there at the original place that I needed the car in the first place. When I got to California, another story all together. 1st day it was that he could not make it because he got caught up in another area. Ok.... Stated he would deliver it the next day in the noon time. Fine.. I'll spend money on expensive taxis to get from place to place. Next day I did not receive any phone calls. Called him and left a message. He returned my phone call a few minutes later to tell me that the police had given him a ticket and was told he could not drive until 24 hrs later. He said he could not drive until 11pm the next day and he would able to deliver my car on thursday evening. Time for me know to go get a rental car which I could have had at the beginning of the week from the airport if I knew the delivery of my car was going to be such a hassle. So did he show up on thursday. Nope! Yes I had to extend the rental car for another day. He showed up friday night or should I say Saturday because it was midnight friday into saturday that he did show up. Out of all the excuses that I no longer remember because they were just giving me a headache. He said he would have it to me at 7pm then it was traffic so it was going to be 9pm... and so on and so on. So from 6pm to midnight on a Friday night, I was sitting in a hotel waiting for my car to be delivered. My first friday night in California, not fun I know. And my car looked like it rolled around in dirt a couple of times.

So payed more than expected for an irresponsible carrier. So will I be using AmeriFreight services again? Would you....?!?!
