We had to move 2 cars from Los Angeles to Ohio at the end of June 2012 (busy season).
I called a number of auto-transport brokers and a few drivers directly.
I settled on AmeriFreight because they had good reviews online and they offered one of the better quotes. Though they weren't the absolute lowest quote (they were close), they were the quote with the lowest broker fee and the highest driver payment. I figured less for the broker and more for the driver meant I was more likely to get a good driver who would take care of our cars. And I was right.
Our AmeriFreight contact was very polite and professional. We had a pretty tight schedule for pickup (just a few days), but he was able to find us a truck and schedule within out window. When we had a little confusion with the driver over pickup time, he also helped sort that out.
Our driver was great. He picked up our cars pretty late on a Friday (~8pm), because we needed them during the day. He was courteous and professional, and very quick! He delivered our cars to Ohio in just 4.5days. We gave him a local Ohio contact for delivery, because he was going to arrive before we did. Also, he was great with payment: instead of cash or bank check, he accepted a direct bank transfer. Since we were both Bank of America customers, I was able to transfer cash directly into his bank account via Bank of America's online transfer options. That was really helpful (I didn't have to fedex a check to Ohio, or figure out some other payment method).
We left a few things in the cars (car seats, strollers, kids bike) and the driver was fine with that. When the cars arrived, they weren't very dirty and nothing was missing, so we were happy.
Overall I was very happy with this experience. I will probably call AmeriFreight again when we move again in ~2yrs.
